Gibson, who was once a member of a rap group called Triple Impact, released his self-titled debut music album, which went platinum, in 1998; his second album, 2000 Watts, shares the name of the organization he founded to help inner city children. Gibson was given the role originally intended for the late 2Pac Shakur in the 2001 film Baby Boy; the movie was a critical success and performed fairly at the box office. Gibson subsequently appeared in the 2003 box office success 2 Fast 2 Furious (opposite Paul Walker, with whom he formed a close friendship during filming), as well as Flight of the Phoenix (2004), Four Brothers (2005) and Annapolis (2006), co-starring James Franco. Gibson was picked as one of People Magazine’s Sexiest Men of the Year in 2000.
Gibson has also established himself as a successful screenwriter, selling the pitches D.A. Verdict to MGM and Extortion to Universal Studios. In 2006, Gibson sold his first original spec script, To Each His Own, to Screen Gems. He is to star in and produce all of the films. Gibson has also created HQ Pictures, a television and film production company. He has hired Mike Le as VP of development & production to oversee and develop projects under the company’s banner.
Gibson prefers his music career to acting, but will focus on both areas. His third album is called Alter Ego, and featured both R&B and hip hop songs. He used an alias, “Black Ty”, for the rap tracks. Tyrese had a role in the Transformers movie, released July of 2007; the film’s director, Michael Bay, had Gibson in mind for the role before he was cast, and thus Gibson did not have to audition for the part.
Tyrese's fourth and latest album Open Invitation was released on November 1, 2011 in the US. It was preceeded by the single "Stay" which peaked on U.S. Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs at number 11. The second single "Too Easy" features Ludacris and was released soon after.

God bless the day I found you
Can somebody tell me
Why you don't believe in me
Oh no
When I say 'A' you think I mean 'B'
I guess it wasn't meant to be, so I'm movin' on, yeah
I'mma tell you like my momma told me, game
(Game recognize game)
That's how I know you will never change
We've been at this for a nice long while
I think it's best we go our own ways, goodbye
(Fame doesn't mean a thing)
Cuz it's all about you
1 - Make up your mind
It's two feet in cuz you can't have one foot out
When you're tryin' to have somethin'
Make up your mind
Cuz I can't want this more than you want this, no
Make up your mind
It's two feet in cuz you can't have one foot out
When you're tryin'
Why don't you make up your mind
No, no, no, no
You've opened my eyes, I've realized
That you and I will never know love
Where did we go wrong, heh
You turned on me in times of need
I'mma tell you like my momma told me, games
(Game recognize game)
That's how I know you will never change
We've been at this for a nice long while
I guess it's best we go own ways, goodbye
(Fame doesn't mean a thing)
Cuz it's all about you
Repeat 1
We've been involved for oh so long (Oh so long)
And already got feelings that are oh so strong
If I get that urge to kick it to the curb
Oh, I'll be out of here and won't look back my dear
I'm sorry but I gotta go, oh
I always let you say what you wanna say
I only told you be who you wanna be
So why you wanna flip on me
Repeat 1 until fade
The lyrics of Tyrese's song Make Up Your Mind explores a relationship that is at the brink of failing due to the lack of commitment by one party. The song opens up with a prayer-like phrase asking God to bless the day the singer found their love interest. They express their confusion about why their partner does not believe in them despite their efforts. The singer feels as if their partner is not on the same page and unable to commit to the relationship fully. They are pained by the fact that their partner tells them they have changed but continues to exhibit the same traits. The singer recognizes the games played, and they feel that it's time to move on. In the chorus, Tyrese urges his partner to make up their mind and commit to the relationship wholly.
Tyrese's song Make Up Your Mind portrays the consequences of lack of commitment in a relationship. The singer also acknowledges the games played in relationships, showcasing how manipulation can affect a relationship. There are instances where partners struggle to be on the same page in a relationship due to their inability to commit to the relationship wholeheartedly. In such cases, the party unable to commit may need to consider why they cannot or will not commit fully to the relationship.
