Tyrone Davis Lyrics

I call you everyday
And your answer server say
It say you not at home
So i call you at work
And you say you can′t talk
Cause you got to make money
Cause you need to pay the bills
What kind of relationship do we have?

You're like mom′s apple pie
You're sweet sweet sweet
You're like mom′s apple pie
So sweet sweet sweet

Well you go to work
From 9 till 5
And i know you so tired
When your 9 till 5
When do i get to see you?

You′re like mom's apple pie
You′re sweet sweet sweet
You're like mom′s apple pie
So sweet sweet sweet

When i see you in the streets
You just pass me by
You won't even speak
What kind of relationship do we have?

Mom′s apple pie
Sweet sweet sweet
Mom's apple pie
Sweet sweet sweet
Mom's apple pie
Sweet sweet sweet
Mom′s apple pie
Sweet sweet sweet

I call you everyday
And your answer server say
It say you not at home
So I call you at work
And you say you can′t talk
Cause you got to make money
So you can pay the bills
What kind of relationship do we have?

You're like mom′s apple pie

You're sweet sweet sweet
So sweet sweet sweet

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Tyrone Davis's song "Mom's Apple Pie" delve into themes of longing, disconnect, and the challenges of maintaining a relationship amidst the demands of daily life. In the first verse, the singer expresses frustration at the lack of communication with their partner, as they call repeatedly only to be met with excuses about not being at home or being too busy at work to talk. This repeated rejection raises questions about the true nature of their relationship and the emotional distance that seems to be growing between them.

The chorus comparison of the partner to "mom's apple pie" conveys a sense of sweetness and comfort but also hints at a longing for warmth and nurturing that might be missing in the relationship. This image of a familiar and comforting food item juxtaposed with the struggles of communication and connection highlights the complexity of emotions involved.

The second verse delves into the partner's work schedule and the singer's yearning to spend time with them, recognizing the toll that work takes on their energy and availability. The plea for quality time together reflects a desire for closeness and intimacy that seems unattainable amidst the demands of everyday life.

The final verse further emphasizes the distance between the singer and their partner, highlighting moments of rejection and indifference that contribute to feelings of isolation and confusion about the state of their relationship. The repetition of the analogy to "mom's apple pie" in the chorus serves as a bittersweet reminder of the sweetness that once characterized their connection, now overshadowed by distance and unresolved tension. Overall, the lyrics of "Mom's Apple Pie" paint a poignant picture of yearning, disillusionment, and the struggle to maintain intimacy in the face of life's challenges.

Woo hoo! I love this song Mom's Apple Pie sung by the late R&B singer Tyrone Davis. I remember one
time when 106.9 played this song on the car stereo when I was out and about with my parents on a
Memorial Day getaway back in 2021 and started dancing to the groovy tune and singing the chorus
part of the song. Ah, so many good memories that I'll never forget. RIP Tyrone Davis. Your music will
never disappear and keep on singing the blues!

My momma’s absolute favorite song! She is gone now. I am going to play this on her gravesite to see if she will get up for one last dance. Just to talk one last time. She loved this song. She had a routine to it...lol. A man never forgets about his momma. Hurts to hear this again, but the memories that comes back to hear this. I can still see my momma dancing...so many tears.
