From the sleeve notes for the latest release End Titles...Stories For Film released in July 2008, the current line-up is stated as James Lavelle and Pablo Clements, also a member of the Psychonauts.
The original line-up was James Lavelle, Tim Goldsworthy (now a member of DFA) and Kudo (Major Force West, Skylab). This incarnation released several EPs and singles, usually involving collaborations with other Mo'Wax affiliated artists.
In 1998, after the departure of Goldsworthy and Kudo, Lavelle enlisted US producer DJ Shadow to help complete UNKLE's debut album, "Psyence Fiction". On this album they collaborated with a variety of guest artists including Thom Yorke (Radiohead), Mike D (Beastie Boys), Badly Drawn Boy and Richard Ashcroft (The Verve). The album contained songs which merged indie-rock with hip hop.
In 2003 UNKLE released "Never, Never, Land". At this time UNKLE consisted of Lavelle and new collaborator Richard File, and the album also featured Ian Brown (The Stone Roses), Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), Robert Del Naja (Massive Attack), Mani (The Stone Roses, Primal Scream) and others.
A third album entitled "War Stories" was released in July 2007. It features collaborations with Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), Ian Astbury (The Cult), Autolux, Robert Del Naja (Massive Attack), The Duke Spirit, and Gavin Clark, and is far more strongly rock-influenced than previous releases. The album was preceded by an EP, Nights Temper, of which a limited pressing was released in May 2007.
Lavelle has also released several mix albums and remixes under his own name and under the name UNKLEsounds (together with Richard File).
UNKLE is known for remixing music from artists such as Explosions in the Sky, Massive Attack, and Oasis.

You don't like me much, well me neither
You go me, my, ma, like you're some kind of God
You live like someone trippin' on the same one you lost
I'm in you, you're on me
I'm in you, you're on me
There ain't no habit that I will not defend
If it comes back well I will not resend
I'm broken, house broken
Now you on the mend
I'm in you, you're on me
Those who pay, will just pay it again
Never beginning nor a jewel at the end
Rip me from the breakage and solvents
Taking over, I'll just take what you got
I'm in you, you're on me
I'm in you, you're on me
You're the truth, I do believe
I'm in you, you're on me
Easy
Gonna follow the light to the love
Gonna follow the light to the love
Gonna follow the light to the love
Gonna follow the light to the love
Gonna follow the light to the love
Gonna follow the light to the love
Gonna follow the light to the love
Gonna follow, gonna follow, gonna follow the light to the love
Well I've gone restless, I don't care
I got fifteen bucks worth of savior faire
You wanna step in my way you won't step again
I just break it, I just bend, I resend
I'm in you, you're on me
I'm in you, you're on me
I'm in you, you're on me
Gonna follow the light to the love
Gonna follow the light to the love
The song "Restless" by UNKLE features the lyrics of a person who is feeling restless and unstable. The lyrics focus on the feeling of being lost and disconnected in both an internal and external sense. The opening lines reveal the singer's unsettled state of mind and their disregard for the opinions of others. The lines "You don't like me much, well me neither / You got me, my, ma, like you're some kind of God" express the singer's indifference to others' opinions and the belief that they are dealing with a god-like figure.
The next set of lines continues the idea of disconnection and confusion. The singer talks about being "in" and "on" others, indicating a sense of entanglement or confusion. The sinking feeling that the singer experiences is also expressed, along with a sense of resignation to things continuing as they are. The phrase "There ain't no habit that I will not defend" suggests a sense of worshipping self-destructive behavior and not acknowledging the need for change.
The final lines of the song express a desire for something positive and a light to follow, implying that the singer is trying to find their way out of their current state. The repetition of the line "Gonna follow the light to the love" reinforces this. The overall theme of the song is one of feeling restless and lost, but with a desire for change and a hope for a better future.
