SUNRISE
Uriah Heep Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And the new day's breakin' through
The morning
Of another day without you
And as the hours roll by
No-one's there to see me cry
Except the sunrise
The sunrise and you
Tired eyes drift across the shore
Looking for love and nothing more
But as the sea rolls by
No-one's there to see me cry
Except the sunrise
The sunrise and you
Sunrise
Bless my eyes
Catch my soul
Make me whole again
Sunrise, new day
Hear my song
I'm tired of fightin'
And foolin' around
But from now on
Till who knows when
My sword will be my friend
And I'll love you, love you
For all of my time
In the song Sunrise by Uriah Heep, the singer is lamenting the absence of a loved one as a new day begins. He finds solace in the beauty of the sunrise and imagines that his absent love is somehow present in the light and warmth of the new day. The lyrics are at once melancholic and hopeful, acknowledging the pain of separation while holding onto the possibility of love and connection.
The singer is alone and lonely, searching for love but finding nothing but the vast expanse of the sea. His tears go unnoticed except by the sunrise and his absent love. The sunrise is personified as a witness, a caring companion who sees and understands his pain.
The second half of the song takes a somewhat different turn. The singer declares that he is tired of fighting and fooling around, and that he will now devote himself to his love, even if she is not physically present. He vows to love her for all of his time, and declares that his sword will be his friend – perhaps meaning that he will defend his love against any threat, or that he will turn his warrior spirit inward and focus on self-improvement.
Overall, the lyrics of Sunrise are about the longing for love, the pain of separation, and the hope that somehow, through the beauty of nature or the power of devotion, love can be rekindled or sustained.

Ah~~~
Sunrise & the new day's breakin' through
The morning of another day without you
And as 'the hours roll by'
No one's there to see me cry...
Except the sunrise...
The sunrise and you~Ah~
Tired eyes 'drift across' the shore
Looking for love & nothing more
But as the sea rolls by
No one's there to see me cry...
Sun-rise.... bless my eyes!
Catch my soul - 'make me whole' again!
Sunrise, new day
hear my song!
I'm tired of fightin' and foolin' around
But from now till who knows when~
My sword will be my friend
And I'll love you,
love ya 'for all of my time 평생토록'

I've listen to rock and progressive music since 1971. Never have I understood how Byron has not been properly acclaimed for the contribution he made to both that era and the times since.

Mid-60s to mid-70s is perhaps the greatest era of music...period. So fortunate to have grown up in that era and enjoyed it ALL!
