-Flash Gordon: Flash Gordon is the hero of a space opera adventure comic strip created by Alex Raymond. First published January 7, 1934. (A movie was made in 1980, but that's after RHPS.)

-Claude Rains: British-American film and stage actor. He started as the invisible man in the homonym movie of 1933.

-Fay Wray: Canadian-born American actress best remembered for starring as Ann Darrow in the 1933 film King Kong.

-Anne Francis: American actress, as said in the lyrics, she was in the sci-fi film Forbidden Planet of 1956.

-Leo G. Carroll: English actor. He played Prof. Gerald Deemer in the 1955 movie Tarantula!

-Janette Scott: English actress. She started in the film The Day of the Triffids, released in 1962.

-Dana Andrews: American film actor. He started in Night Of The Demon (1957).

-George Pal: Hungarian-American animator, film director and producer. When Worlds Collide (1951) was produced by him. His wife was Elisabeth "Zsoka" Pal.

-R.K.O: RKO Pictures was an American film production and distribution company. Producer Val Lewton worked into a low-budget horror unit. King Kong (1933) is one of the most important films produced by RKO.

Lyrics:
Michael Rennie was ill
The Day the Earth Stood Still
But he told us where we stand
And Flash Gordon was there
In silver underwear
Claude Rains was The Invisible Man

Then something went wrong
For Fay Wray and King Kong
They got caught in a celluloid jam
Then at a deadly pace
It Came From Outer Space
And this is how the message ran...

Science fiction double feature
Doctor X will build a creature
See androids fighting Brad and Janet
Anne Francis stars in Forbidden Planet
Woah oh, oh oh oh
At the late night double feature picture show

I knew Leo G. Carroll
Was over a barrel
When Tarantula took to the hills
And I really got hot
When I saw Janette Scott
Fight a Triffid that spits poison and kills
Dana Andrews said "Prunes!"
Gave him the runes
And passing them used lots of skills
But When Worlds Collide
Said George Pal to his bride
"I'm gonna give you some terrible thrills"
Like a...

@husserl49

I saw this film classic in the 1970s and was completely smitten, mesmerized. The opening song was akin to Beethoven's Ode to Joy and played homage to a period of innocence and exuberance. Pure unadulterated fun & bliss. This song sank deep into my unconscious psyche. I lived life in the 1950s and indeed went frequently to the local late-night double feature picture shows in my home town. I saw Tarantula in 1955 when it came out and had nightmares for years afterward. I saw Dana Andrews in the 1957 " Curse of the Demon " the source of which was "Casting the Runes". And it was today nearly 70 years after the fact that I happened to see Dana Andrews, white hair and wizened face, doing a guest appearance on an old re-run episode of "Love Boat". I knew that face and gradually came to his name "Dana Andrews". And once I had called up the name, "Dana Andrews" - these lyrics and music flowed forth in my mind . .
Michael Rennie was ill
The Day the Earth Stood Still
But he told us where we stand
And Flash Gordon was there
In silver underwear
Claude Rains was The Invisible Man

. .

And I really got hot
When I saw Janette Scott
Fight a Triffid that spits poison and kills

Dana Andrews said "Prunes!"
Gave him the runes
And passing them used lots of skills.

All I could think about was:
Dana Andrews said "Prunes!" Gave him the runes and passing them used lots of skills"

I agree with the comment above:

Please stand for the National Anthem.
