After performing in french famous festivals such as the Francofolies of New Caledonia, the Brive Festival and even in l’Olympia, the couple showed how well they could share who they were with the audience within just a few notes.
Today, VAITEANI evolve and deviate their original polynesian folk music on the path of fluorescent pop and subtle electro. A transposition gracefully achieved that keeps the duo’s dna intact. Still the perfect english and the ancestral tahitian to speak. An ambitious second album that marks, more than ever, the fusion of two identities.
The couple designed the songs of this opus as the islands of an archipelago. The islands form a whole and bare at the same time their own singularities and their own stories.
Luc’s influences gave birth to « Homai », a unique tahitian-like afrobeat ; « Reason », a Vance Joy style folk hit and « Kiss Kiss », a happy song on balafo, with electro background.
Vaiteani’s sensitivity suspends time and calls for emotion on a piano song like « Heitiare » or on a ballad like « Signs », the track that names the album in tribute to the ones who are gone. Yes there is spirituality in this music too.
The lovers co-produced the album with David Grumel (The Pirouettes, Neeskens). And to work on their only reggae « Angry » they appealed to Manjul who, from his studio Humble Ark in Bamako, won recognition as one of the masters of the genre.
Hard to label their music. What we know for sure is that the bonds are made, twisted just like the motives of the polynesian tatoos that the world took over. No doubt VAITEANI will meet the same success.
