The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.
Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.
Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.
Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.
Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.
She's My Baby
Various Artists Lyrics

Highly-rated, well-educated, she's an angel
She's ambitious, beautiful, delicious, got a restaurant
I can take it, truth stripped me naked, yeah I f**ked up...yeah
She was my girl
Used to be my world
I miss my girl
She put together, says she's doing better since she let go
Repeated dreamer, now and then I see her and we have lunch
Ever playful, hook the jumper cable, give me fresh spark
Sister ringing, old reminder stinging, bridges burned hoss...yeah
She was my girl
Used to be my world
I miss my girl
What a fine girl
She called me up, I guess she pretty stuck, she needed my help
It made me happy, hence the lyric sappy, I still love her...yeah
She was my girl
Used to be my world
I miss my girl
What a fine girl
Such a fine girl
I miss my girl
Used to be my world
She was my girl
The opening verse of "She's My Baby" by Jay Z is an ode to his significant other, describing her in three adjectives: copacetic, calm, and highly-rated. He praises her education and personality, calling her an "angel." Additionally, he admires her ambition and work, mentioning her restaurant. Despite his admiration for her, he also admits to his wrongdoing, stating that "truth stripped me naked." The chorus reminisces about their past relationship, describing her as his girl and the center of his world. He misses her, mourning the end of their romance.
In the second verse, Jay Z describes his ex's current state, asserting that she's doing better since their breakup. He mentions meeting her occasionally for lunch and describes her as "ever playful" and able to give him a "fresh start." However, the reminiscences are interrupted by a phone call from his ex, seeking his help. Jay Z is happy to oblige, despite the past, which he acknowledges in the final lines of the song, restating that he still loves her.
The lyrics to "She's My Baby" showcase the deep love and admiration that Jay Z feels for his former partner, whom he still misses. The song describes the complex emotions that come with the end of a relationship, from mourning to nostalgia to willingness to help. The lyrics are relatable to anyone who has gone through a breakup, as each line rings true to the feelings that people experience during the process.
