The term Various Artists is used in the record industry when numerous singers and musicians collaborate on a song or collection of songs. Most often on Last.fm, compilation album tracks appear under the name of Various Artists erroneously because the individual artist is not listed in the album's ID3 information.
Compilation albums, for example.

Sometimes, single releases may be credited to Various Artists when their profits are going to charity and, usually in high-profile cases, are sometimes known by a group name. Examples include Band Aid with their releases of Do They Know It's Christmas? and USA for Africa with We Are The World.

Various Artists is also an actual performance name for Torsten Pröfrock, who runs the German DIN label. Torsten performs also as Dynamo, Erosion, Resilent, Traktor besides some others. He's a good friend of Robert Henke and since the Fall of 2004, he is a member of Monolake.

Various Artists was also a short-lived Bristol punk band formed by brothers Jonjo and Robin Key (originally from Birmingham). Other members were also simultaneously in Art Objects who went on to become The Blue Aeroplanes, the latter the Key brothers also co-wrote some songs and were involved in. When Various Artists imploded, the Key brothers went on to form Either / Or.

Various Artists also appear on tracks from musical theater soundtracks, due to the nature of having many cast members on one song, as well as an ensemble in some cases.

When we had school dances in 1982, we’d dress up in 50’s duds & dance to these beautiful classics. I miss it. Wish I’d grown up in the ‘50’s but the 70’s & 80’s weren’t so bad, compared to nowadays… it’s sad. We didn’t have cell phones or computers in our homes. We were closer as a society & less stressed. We road around on our bikes all over our neighborhoods. We’d stay out w our friends until it got dark. Those were blessed times. I’m praying for you young families & kiddos growing up now. Remember when America was America I look at this picture and it makes me want to cry. Put a picture of a modern-day singing group Next to this one and you'll understand what I'm talking about.
Never in my 62 years of life could I have imagined how Society and music everything has been dehumanized and the world around us has become so satanic.

Dad died 12 days ago (1/16/23.) ✝️
Heart failure. He was only 64. To young to die. We’re still in shock. At Christmas he was walking around talking and laughing, now he’s gone. I’ll love you until the end of time. Life goes fast. So laugh often, love fiercely , and live fully.

Sorry for your lost...my beloved mom of 98yrs. passed away this past April ; she was my best friend. Thank God I was able to care for her so she wouldn't end up in a nursing home. These four walls get lonelier with each day without her.

I have been listening to this song for so long and it is so infectious that nearly everyone that has their shot at fame in the music business has tried to cover it and nobody comes close. I understand that you can't not like this song but, forget it. It won't ever come close to the original, and just leave it alone! Its like Beaumont and Joe Rock had a magic lamp and asked the genie to give them a song that will always be just theirs and nobody would ever do it better, the genie complied and threw in a few more. Since I Don't Have YOU is untouchable, so please you singers out there, leave great enough alone.

@Myron Coleman HI Myron. Thanks for your reply. There was a part in a Rock and Roll revival that I was at in NYC in 1971 when The Skyliners were performing. The group had finished up there set with Since I don't have you and were leaving the stage. The crowd was going crazy and calling for more, and there were a lot of people calling for Lonely Way. They wouldn't stop until they came back. I remember Jimmy saying that he couldn't believe that so many people were asking for that song , but the band didn't have the music for it. People started screaming for a capella. They hadn't done it in years, and it was the b side of It happened one day. He said "Only in New York " and Jimmy asked if we could give them a minute to see what they could do. They went to the side and were arranging it to do with four members because they were missing their bass. Anyway, they came back and apologized in advance if they messed it up! They were absolutely incredible, so perfect on key,I remember it as if it were last week. I knew something good was gonna happen soon because they were asking for people to come and try out for replacements for some of the groups that were missing members. You have to remember, what they were calling oldies were mostly people in their late 20s, or early thirties in 1971. What seemed like a hundred years ago was only 10. The next summer, I was at Madison Square Garden when they brought back Dion and the Belmonts and turned a Rock station into the biggest oldies station in the US, WCBS-FM .No wonder the format lasted so long . We were still kids when our music came back. Thanks for the memories. RIP Janet and Jimmy.
