Shooting Star
Venus on Tape Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Your love is sad
What did you come back for
Well, I don't
I don't feel anything at all
You know, you know I don't want to
Yeah, you know, you know I don't want to go
I don't wanna die
I don't wanna die
I don't wanna die
I'm relieved
Nobody knows my name
And I don't
I don't love you at all
You know, you know I don't want to
Yeah, you know, you know I don't want to go
I don't wanna die
I don't wanna die

I don't wanna die
I don't wanna die

Overall Meaning

In the song "Shooting Star" by Venus on Tape, the lyrics convey a sense of sadness and emotional detachment. The opening lines, "Your love is sad, what did you come back for," suggest that the singer is addressing someone who has returned, potentially from a previous breakup or emotional separation. The repetition of "I don't feel anything at all" emphasizes the singer's emotional numbness or inability to reconnect with the past.

The chorus, "I don't wanna die, I'm relieved," adds an interesting twist to the song's theme. Here, the mention of death may be symbolic rather than literal. It could represent the singer's desire to escape from the burden of emotional pain or the weight of the past. The word "relieved" indicates that the singer finds some solace in not wanting to hold on to negative emotions or to the person they are addressing.

The lines "Nobody knows my name, and I don't, I don't love you at all" reinforce the theme of detachment and anonymity. The singer feels unnoticed and disconnected, suggesting a desire to remain distant from this person and the emotional baggage associated with them. The repetition of "you know I don't wanna go" reveals a reluctance to engage in the situation, possibly to prevent further emotional pain or simply out of apathy.

The final repetition of "I don't wanna die" in the chorus emphasizes the singer's resistance to being consumed by negative emotions. It could be an affirmation of their will to survive and overcome the hardships they have experienced or an expression of not wanting to be defined by their past.

Overall, the lyrics of "Shooting Star" convey a mix of sadness, detachment, and a desire to move forward. The song explores the complex emotions surrounding love and its aftermath, highlighting the singer's refusal to let their identity be dictated by past experiences.

Goddess on the mountain top
Burning like a silver flame
The summit of beauty and love
And Venus was her name
She's got it
Yeah, baby, she's got it
I'm your Venus, I'm your fire
At your desire
Well, I'm your Venus, I'm your fire
At your desire
Her weapons were her crystal eyes
Making every man a man
Black as the dark night she was
Got what no-one else had
Wa!

I saw it as well here in Philippines, it was the brightest shooting star I've seen in my entire life it was huge and fast.

@pijnacker01

Thanks for the report.

My cousin and I saw something that looked Very similar as we were fishing in Northern Colorado that same night. I didn't pay attention to the time unfortunately, probably around 9 PM local time. But, the thing we saw blinked over and over and flew across the whole sky, alternating blinking Very bright, and then going very dim and almost not visible, closer to a normal satellite. We saw lots of regular planes, satellites, and even a few shooting stars that night, but that thing blinking across the sky so bright and looked around the height of a satellite or higher, was something like I've never seen before.

Very nice bud! I didn't see that in my area nor have I caught anything like that in any of my videos yet, so lucky!

Too slow for a meteor (shooting star), too fast for a comet or asteroid. This looks a lot like a satellite just catching the sun and reflecting it in your direction for a brief second. It looks exactly like the Iridium flares used to do, coming from nowhere and only visible for a few seconds, but they were much brighter.

Hello so I just came across your video while I was searching for “shooting stars coming out of Venus”. One of my good friends and her cousin witnessed what she described as shooting stars coming straight out of that bright star right next to the moon which I told her was Venus not a star actually a Planet And she freaked out. She said they looked like shooting stars coming straight down out of the Planet there was a bunch of them and then they formed like a backwards J-shaped and followed each other and disappeared I said those are no shooting stars I’ve never witnessed that in my entire life and I’ve seen many shooting stars meteor showers etc. So far this is the closest thing I found to what she described did you ever figure out what it was?

@pijnacker01

No, never figured it out but thank you 🙏 for sharing.

@suchdiewahrheit2678
