The duo released the "Choke" EP on Bella Union, the label run by Guthrie and former Cocteau mate Simon Raymonde late 2000. Their highly-acclaimed debut album "Roulette" followed in 2001 on Instinct. A singles collection, "Casino", followed in early 2002 (Instinct). "Russian Doll", their official sophomore album was released in 2004 on Bella Union and represents a great artistic leap. Guthrie and De Mare have honed their song-writing partnership to create a flawless collection of sublime pop moments, ranging from desolate torch songs through to hypnotic summer lullabies.
While continuing his work with Violet Indiana, Robin Guthrie remains active on many fronts. 2003 saw the release of Imperial, his debut solo album, which was both a critical and commercial success. More recently he has been collaborating with Ulrich Schnauss and also Harold Budd, with whom he is writing the soundtrack to the new Gregg Araki film, Mysterious Skin. He has also created a short animated film, Lumiere, which he has performed as an interactive musical piece at various multi-media festivals across Europe.
According to Robin Guthrie's weblog, the duo have been in the studio working on new material.

Violet Indiana Lyrics

What i meant that day
Nothing's changed
And taste is strange
Can you see me
In another way
I have to say
In your darkest day
Can you feel me
Can you ??? me
I just couldn't say
What i meant that day
Nothing's changed
And taste is strange
I'm another way
In your darkest day
Can you feel me
Can you ??? me
I reveal the distance
I conceal your existence
I reveal the distance
While you conceal your insistence
I'm another way
In your darkest day
I'm another way
In your darkest day
You help me to [unknown]
It's been hell on me (?)
You help me to [unknown] me
It's been hell on me (?)
You help me to [unknown]
It's been hell on me (?)
Your darkest day
Can you feel me
Can you feel me
The lyrics to Violet Indiana's song "Storm" are somewhat ambiguous and open to interpretation, but they seem to deal with themes of misunderstanding, distance, and the struggle to communicate. The singer seems to be acknowledging that they failed to express themselves adequately on a previous occasion ("I just couldn't say/What I meant that day"), and that they are trying to find another way to be understood. They suggest that their identity or perspective is somehow different from what the listener might expect ("I'm another way"), but that they can still be a source of comfort or support in difficult times ("In your darkest day/Can you feel me").
The repeated lines "I reveal the distance/While you conceal your insistence" suggest a pattern of miscommunication or conflict, where the singer is trying to bridge a gap between themselves and the listener, but the listener is resistant or defensive. The final lines, which are again somewhat unclear, seem to suggest that the listener has been a help to the singer in some way, but that it has also been painful ("You help me to [unknown]/It's been hell on me"). Overall, the song seems to be an attempt to forge a connection in the face of obstacles, to acknowledge the limitations of language and perception, and to express a desire for empathy and understanding.
