In the song, the artist Voxel Fourier, the alternative electronicore brainchild of Ronald Rhodes, officially starts the sort of concept album "And The Remnants Come Slowly" with reflections on a past experience of surviving a difficult situation or conflict. The song's title "I'm Alive" summarizes the main theme across the whole song, a valiant cry that, despite everything, Fourier still stands above all the war and destruction that brought him so much turmoil.
The metaphors of fire and burning symbolize a bit of a Phoenix situation, in that Fourier rises from the ashes, especially after a toxic relationship. Rhodes had written the song from his own personal experience with such an issue relating to his father. The song also comes off the introduction of the album "Found In Fire", which adds to the Phoenix symbolism.
"Most of this album, for me, is about Junior. I don't want this to be unrelatable to anyone else, though. I haven't been in the best of headspaces for a while, and I needed something to speak more closely not only to myself, but others. That's where this whole project came in. I can't believe this was a one-off from my Venetin project "Raw Data" LP. It definitely helps bridge the gap of what I want to do."
This is also the beginning of the first of three acts within the concept album, with plunging the listener in the beginning of the story by starting at its relative conclusion, after Fourier awakes in an unknown place, possibly a limbo. However, Fourier makes a promise to bring his oppressor through the same turmoil he had been through toward the end.
