Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after Thee
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee

You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after Thee
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee

You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee

You're my friend
And You are my brother
Even though You are a King
I love You more than any other
So much more than anything

You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield

You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee

My 6 year old daughter who was a a very sick premature baby born with sepsis and was told would would not make it through the night love this song word for word....we prayed to our God that His will be done but if He could as we begged keep her here on earth and she survived and she is a miracle. God is real I cannot stress that enough, He was with us in our darkest night giving us peace of heart knowing He was with us and would never leave us and we where able to somehow accept that if the worst happened we would get through the pain and sorrow.....thank you Jesus for my little Anna and her life with us

My dad used to sing this song with a guitar to me when I was a child. I felt so safe and loved by my father; mediated through the security and love of my Heavenly Father. 😊

I'm extremely grateful to my mother whose love for the psalms was enough for me to be curious about them. King David has got to be one of the sincerest worshippers that ever lived. His insecurities, I believe, were the source of his dependence on and openness with God. Now I understand why Paul says we are strongest when we are weak. I say it with absolutely ZERO doubts that God is the God of the disadvantaged and oppressed. Try Him, He'll show up in ways you could never imagine!
