His first months in Nashville were long days of construction jobs and long evenings of gigs in local clubs. Burning the candle at both ends inspired his signature song, “Old Enough to Know Better,” which became the only debut track by a country artist to reach #1 in 1995. Hayes continued to occupy the charts with 6 top ten tunes, including #1 “I’m Still Dancing With You.”
Wade withdrew from the crushing schedule of intense touring to spend more time writing and revitalizing. He’s turning heads on Music Row again with his latest album, “Place to Turn Around.” As producer for this project, he assembled an A-list of musicians to record the 11 songs. He wrote 9 of the tracks, provided the lead vocals and some of the harmonies and played guitar on each of the cuts. That Nashville Sound placed the album on their top 10 list declaring “this is an unexpected gem, the most under-rated album of 2009 for sure.”

You know I'd love to comfort you
Guess we always had alot in common
You know, I'm lonesome, too
You know, I'm lonesome, too
If pouring rain and thunder shakes your window
Trouble comes knockin' out of the blue
It don't matter which way that old wind blows
I'm lonesome, too
If there's something in your heart, you can't get over
I'll be the ladder you can use
Climb on up and cry here, on my shoulder
You know I'm lonesome too
There's a well upon that hill, that's good for wishin'
And time and time again, I wish for you
But, my heart's broke and all my money's missin'
You know, I'm lonesome, too
You know, I'm lonesome, too
The lyrics of Wade Hayes's song "I'm Lonesome Too" convey a sense of companionship in loneliness. The singer is telling the person on the other end of the phone, who is crying and in need of comfort, that they too are experiencing the same emotions. They have a commonality in their loneliness that brings them closer together. This theme is continued throughout the song as the singer offers a safe space for the person to come and cry on their shoulder, stating that they are willing to be the ladder to help them climb out of their sadness. The lyrics also carry a sense of longing and heartbreak, as the singer admits that they have been wishing for this other person but seem to be unable to find happiness.
Overall, the lyrics of "I'm Lonesome Too" offer a sense of understanding and empathy for the listener, while also expressing the singer's own feelings of loneliness and sadness. It's a poignant reminder that no one is truly alone in their struggles, and sometimes all it takes is a sympathetic ear and a comforting presence to make a world of difference.
