I live frugally in an affluent town. What i have noticed is that people, either professionally or socially, will treat people they see as their "equals" respectfully..mutal respect.. But when they encounter someone who they determine, either professionally or socially, "beneath" them, they treat that person like garbage. With a high degree of disdain and haughtiness. And that, to me is THE MOST UNCOUTH behavior I've seen! You ARE exactly the person you behave to be when you encounter someone who you might consider either less than you professionally or socially.. if you treat them like trash, you ARE trash.

Thank you for this channel and series. It really helps for someone to simply reveal the ‘rules’ for personal excellence in this time of social change.
I don’t know if you’ve approached this subject, but I’d like your opinion on how to interact with those who are helping you; what is the proper way to treat the help’ - from the concierge to the busboy and housemaid? I’ve seen perfectly appalling behavior that reveals horrible character flaws in those who ‘should know better’.
My parents were from a refined background, but due to our financial situation we never had household help except when I was very small. As an adult my fortunes have changed, and I now find it quite challenging to create and maintain appropriate boundaries in such critical personal situations. People in service roles, like personal care aides and housekeeping assistance can be part of one’s most personal moments; they know all about you and yet they’re not simply friends because there’s a hierarchical financial dimension to the relationship. Any thoughts and advice you have would be much appreciated. Thank you .

#5 is huge!! When I was a little girl my parents always reminded me that if you're in a conversation you should always ask the other person questions and not just talk about yourself. Conversations require give and take. When I am at an event chatting with someone and I find that I'm the only one asking questions and they don't ask about me, I assume they don't want to talk to me and try to walk away.

I firmly believe the art of conversation needs to be taught. For some it’s innate- my mother is notorious for this practice and it’s unnerving. It’s hard for me to have a conversation with her.

I’m a bus driver for a very large company and people assume that I’m not educated or have any other skills and belittle me for my choice of occupation! They couldn’t be more wrong! I hold a bachelors of science in business management and administration which I used for 25 years and got burned out running an office and getting paid not much over the minimum wage. I changed my career to do something different and I like it! Plus I have a much better salary!

It’s sad that I get harassed by my “guests” to use the restroom or have my lunch! I have unfortunately not been so nice to them for being rude and denying me the most basic things like eating and using the toilet! I shouldn’t have to hold my bathroom business for 8 hours nor go without eating! My health is just as important as theirs!

Been there and done that in my twenties. Rich folk, especially those who have not made their own money, tend to be very insecure...as is demonstrated by your advice here. The wealthy are very aware of what people want from them. I walked away from this society decades ago, because I did not like the lifestyle...

Thank you, Anna. I do appreciate learning things that I've not been doing correctly so that I can change them. I've never quite understood when people who come to your channel get upset with information you convey, and instead, take it in some sort of way that's like an attack to them or some such thing. Obviously, viewers who come to see videos such as yours, want to make their way into a life they don't currently have, in some sort of way. For example, I'm happy with the man I have and we both want to learn to upgrade ourselves. We have an interest in working with people in areas where it could be advantageous to come across in an upscale way. Regardless, on one will come to watch videos such as the ones found here if they want to continue on in their life the same way. As such, it's quite odd when people take the information as an attack on themselves. Obviously, if whatever most people are doing was upscale, we'd all be...well...upscale.

I really agree with you on No. 2 - just asking questions all the time makes the person you're talking to feel really uncomfortable... I once went on a date with a guy who kept asking really basic questions and I felt like I was in an interrogation room. And because he kept asking questions, I got pretty bored and just tuned out... to conclude it's always better to find a common interest and talk about that rather than playing that game!

Excellent advices everybody should follow. Having conversations with middle class folks can be brutal. In my experience, very poor and very affluent people are more natural, spontaneous, more interesting and original. The middle class is extremely boring and only speaks obvious clichés, they want to keep up with the Jones, and live with distrust, self doubt, and limitations.

I remember being very upset when a friend randomly invited my to a WhatsApp group a few years ago with around 12 people I didn’t know. Yes, I totally agree. I confess I became highly defensive towards intrusiveness no because of hiding anything but because of break of privacy. Being super social I invite intrusive curious people unconsciously, so I have to block people and become selective. But starting to eat before everybody is served and before the host starts the dinner is so low. I am used to better manners here in Europe. Even at kids parties they wait until everyone got their piece of birthday cake. Well, let's keep up with good manners nevertheless and raise our kids well. At least they behave at our table then.

This is really useful and truthful insider information. I was with a successful famous person and I made some of the mistakes Anna is pointing out here. There were some points that I knew beforehand, thank goodness, but I don't mind that he found me boring in the end though, cuz he turned out not to at all be the kind of person I want to be with. He was a dangerous one. I'm sure a nicer person would not find me boring at all.

One of the WORST things you can do to anybody is to secretly video them or secretly photograph them, or even take "selfie" photos of yourself with them, without them knowing it and then post it on any social media. Famous or celebrity people usually don't have a problem with this, and you always have to ask permission, but with non-public people doing so is invading their privacy and they can sue you.

I like to sit back and observe, keeping a soft smile, and when someone asks me anything I will speak and be kind and gracious about it. It is always nice to observe and nod in interest rather than just blurting out unnecessarily. This is how I learned from one of my wealthy gentleman friends who takes me out on occasion.

But, I made sure I talked with relatives I haven't seen in a while and I could hear myself becoming passionate about looking into volunteer work in my area after the New Year. I wasn't trying to impress anyone, but I wanted to show some personality. It's very unlikely that I'll have any interactions in affluent circles, but this knowledge is good to have.

Really good manners is about putting others at ease and treating them the same way you would want them to treat you. If you don’t want other people putting out your personal info, don’t do the same for others. If name-dropping annoys you when others do it , don’t do the same.

I believe people have preferences but these points are valid 100% because I have experienced and fixed some of these flaws within myself and trust me, the embarrassment is beyond once you realize how stupid you look after making these mistakes 😂

Having been in billionaire and millionaire circles i can say anything too much is not good.
The only one who should be nice and say yes every minute is the hired help. 😆
And how you treat hired help says a lot about your character. They are people with their own lives. Remember that always.
That said be real and honest. My mother was a narcissist and it took a minute to find my real self. The lovely people i surrounded myself with were instrumental in my healing and self growth along with counseling. Traveling and even living in Germany for 3 years.
Even if you don't have these types of issues in your life just be real fake is easily recognized.
Never drop names or of course never give anyones information out without express permission.

How you treat some one who is serving you, like a waitress or waiter says a lot about the person you are. You can still be respectful and kind if you are wealthy or not wealthy. I think we should all be respectful and kind to everybody and everybody should be respectful and kind in return.

The part about not asking too many questions and sharing information about yourself can be tricky though because most people who are affluent (or not) oftentimes, love talking about themselves and don't won't to hear much about you. Especially, the narcissistic ones, lol.

To be honest there is a huge divide between 'affluent' and old money. Old money can sniff you out whether you are affluent or not. Noveau riche/high society cannot emulate the behaviour of old money no matter how hard they try. It takes years of inbreeding to attain that.

I was raised in the South. As a young girl I was taught proper manners especially to be respectful to my elders and any one else that I meet along my day. I am 62 years. I have lived on the East and West coast and in the mid west - my upbringing has served me very well in my personal life and my work - assistant to stock brokers with very wealthy clients. I was also taught I am an individual. I have noticed even here in the South that people do not have manners because they are not taught them. Hence your video is needed.

I'm not particularly interested in "high" society, but I would say that every one of these points should apply to all people.
I once read a little book about how to act in all situations, and around all kinds of people. What it all boils down to is one very simple, yet challenging principle:
Love and treat others the way you want to be treated.

Your video was good in showing us how to do that better, no matter what their material status.

@Vierka Vojcikova of course it is related to class. The video is implying that certain decorum is exclusive to upper class and if you don't master it you will reveal yourself not as lacking in manners, but as a member of a lower class.

The asking questions is a fine line I believe. You do want them to talk about them more than you talk about yourself. Make sure the questioning goes with the flow of the conversation. My business prof said for every 3 questions you ask, give 1 piece of information about yourself. Let them talk about themselves as much as they want.

Anna, can you do a video on how to react to situations where the people you are conversing with are acting narcissistic? I believe many of us who have been following your YouTube videos know how to properly act, but not how to react when we are faced with such awkward situations. I, personally, never know how to react to a person who seems uninterested in what I’m saying and can not wait for me to stop talking so this person can have the spotlight. Do you ignore this type of behavior and act like you don’t notice it? Or do you politely call this person out on his rude behavior?

Jessica, sorry that some people act like this. Well, depends on how many people are standing there. If it is just you and this person, it is easy. You just say oh, sorry, I can see that I am boring you. Sorry. And then you leave. Why should you listen to this person if he or she does not listen to you? Find some other people, just good look with finding some good, funny, nice conversations.

Dear glo Lo AG, you definitely look like upper class, beautiful by mother nature. Please do not think that people with degree are worth more. Your good manners should be normal, I am surprised that a human being can be so insensitive and give personal information to strangers.
Whenever someone asked friends for my number, they called me first. Of course I did the same. Sometimes friends just arranged some casual dinner party and invited both of us.
Best way to meet good people is on private parties.
