Don't Let Her
Walker Hayes Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She always said if something ever
Happened to me she would never
Fall in love again
Uh, what a waste

We always said we'd go together
But if I'm just half of her forever
This goes out to whoever
Takes my place

She don't give 2 cents about money
Likes a little coffee in her honey
Let her sleep late as she wants
Home is her favorite restaurant
Don't you dare come home if you're hammered
Better watch your mouth and your grammar
She loves babies, hates glitter
You better shave before you kiss her
And if she ever misses me, please, don't let her

She's insecure about her legs, right
Something wrong with her hair, right
Just tell her she's crazy (crazy)
Even though she won't believe you, nah

Best advice I can give you, brother
Don't ever say she's acting just like her mother
Even though she does sometimes
It's gonna be our little secret

She don't give 2 cents about money
Likes a little coffee in her honey
Let her sleep late as she wants
Home is her favorite restaurant
Don't you dare come home if you're hammered
Better watch your mouth and your grammar
She loves babies, hates glitter
You better shave before you kiss her
And if she ever misses me, please, don't let her

Make her feel better
Say something funny
Say something 'bout the weather
Tell her wherever I am, I'm good
And if she thinkin' she can love again
She should, understood?

Orchids, that's her favorite flower
Don't ever watch "The Office" without her
After church, she gonna talk
Her favorite season is football

She don't give 2 cents about money
Likes a little coffee in her honey
Let her sleep late as she wants
Home is her favorite restaurant
Don't you dare come home if you're hammered
Better watch your mouth and your grammar
She loves babies, hates glitter

You better shave before you kiss her
And if she ever misses me, please, don't let her

Overall Meaning

The song "Don't Let Her" by Walker Hayes is a ballad about a man who is asking his successor to take good care of his beloved partner after he has passed away. The lyrics express his deep love for his partner and his concern about how she will cope without him. The chorus urges the successor not to let his partner miss him too much. The man lists various qualities and preferences of his partner that make her unique and special.

The song is very emotional and personal to Walker Hayes, as it is based on his experiences after his mentor and friend died, leaving behind his wife and children. Hayes wrote the song partly as a tribute to his friend, and partly as a message to anyone who might someday find themselves in a similar situation.

The first verse is about the man's partner's vow to never fall in love again if anything were to happen to him. The man finds it pointless because he believes that his partner is capable of love and deserves to be loved by someone else in the future. The second verse provides insight into the partner's personality and preferences, such as her love of coffee and babies, her dislike of glitter, and her insecurity about her legs and hair.

I think Walker Hayes is the most underrated talent of the current time. Of course everyone is finally seeing him due to the Applebee's l song. However he's so much more than just that song. I hope people seek out his other music and are pleasently surprised. He's so talented and adorable. But what makes him so adorable is he is an amazing husband and daddy of six.
