Little Girl
Waters Muddy Lyrics

Won't you please ma'm tell me your name
Little girl, little girl
Won't you please ma'm tell me your name
The reason I ask you all these questions
I just want to be your man
Little girl, little girl
Little girl, little girl
Where did you get your sugar from
If you wasn't born in Texas
You was raised down on a Louisiana farm
Little girl, little girl
You're just as sweet as you can be
You know your kisses taste like
The sugar you use in tea
Well you got me tryin' to taste your sugar
And your sugar's all right with me
Little girl, little girl
Won't you take me down on your daddy's farm
Little girl, little girl
Won't you take me down on your daddy's farm
I was doing the things for you baby
So you just wont leave me alone
Little girl, little girl
You're just as sweet as you can be
Little girl, little girl
You're just as sweet as you can be
You know every time I kiss you baby
Cold chills run all over me
In Waters Muddy's song "Little Girl", he's addressing a girl and asking for her name. He's intrigued by her and interested in becoming her man. He asks her where she got her sugar from and suggests that she may have been born in Louisiana, not Texas. Sugar is a metaphor for sweetness, which the girl perfectly embodies. Her kisses taste like the sugar she uses in her tea, and he wants to taste her sugar. He wants to visit her on her daddy's farm and continue doing things for her so she won't leave him alone. Every time he kisses her, he gets chills all over his body, which suggests that he's deeply attracted to her.
The song is about a man who is instantly drawn to a girl's sweetness and charm. He's deeply attracted to her and wants to be her man. He's so entranced with her that he's willing to do anything to keep her close. However, it's important to note that "sugar" is often used as a euphemism for sex, which is typical of blues music. Therefore, the song may be interpreted as a sexual encounter or desire between the two individuals.

This is a great song to close the album. Great musianship here. The amped harp playing by JC on this is outstanding . Its great across album but this song is the peak. He really mixes it up. Im a harp player but the versatility he has across this song is incredible. For example the melody as he plays behind the piano solo at 5 mins and the switch as guitar solo comes in.. Muddy's encouraging remarks as each band member solos is so cool....just love it as he says "what do I hear..what do I hear...let it roll" when johnny's solo comes in. it just oozes cool. They make it sound easy. Such a well mixed album. One of the best electric blues albums with guys playing at their best.

Great album played by musicians who, for me, created the best blues sound ever. James Cotton is a monster on this particular track but the whole band in terms of the blues is as good as it gets!
Eugene Toth
James Cotton ... a monster... couldn't agree with you more!

Muddy Waters really had the real blues....those bluesmen from the plantations would never be (and we hope there will be again) replace for anyone, their music came from pure heart
