As noted in the Weezer Video Capture Device DVD, it marks the acting debut for the band members in a music video. At one point, Kevin Smith was attached to direct the video for this song, but without the Muppets.

The story is the director wanted Rivers to smile more but he wouldn't but noticed the only time Rivers would was when he was looking at Kermit. So the director kept holding up Kermit off camera to get him to smile more and you can see it kinda working.
