In 1991, after the recording of its first demo-tape, White Skull was noticed by the audience and the specialized Italian metal press. The band started a live-promotion in order to increase its own experience. In May 1994, WS released their second demo entitled "Save the Planet", which received excellent reviews.
Excellent reviews and extensive live appearances brought the band in touch with a few Italian labels. However, their music was considered "not suitable for the market"… thus, the guys were asked to change sound and music style. Being fond of classical Heavy Metal and followers of bands like Iron Maiden, Helloween, Scorpions, Black Sabbath and Saxon, the Skulls decided to go on with their type of music, because of their belief in true Metal life-style. White Skull then contributed to two Heavy Metal compilation:
* "Nightpieces 4" (in January 1995) and "Area Sismica" (in June 1995).

Freedom's Not Free
White Skull Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Hundred souls
Sounds like a toll to me
Whispers of death
This I heard in the final take
Freedoms not free, will you see it
Eyes of the angels never saw
Shut, you got to see
You want them with no sorry feels
Rulers want dominion
And crave for damnation
Freedoms not free, will you see it
Lies that trigger
The final sacrifice
For the greater good
Souls are lost
How much do you want
Souls are lost
For freedom
Called to serve
How many get killed
Called to serve
For freedom
The song "Freedom's Not Free" by White Skull speaks about the cost of freedom, highlighting the idea that it is not something that comes without a price. The lyrics suggest that the cost is human life, which is represented by the "hundred souls" and "whispers of death". The song acknowledges that there are those who desire domination, and in achieving this rule, the lives of countless people are often sacrificed. The lyrics pose the question of whether it is worth it, and whether people are truly able to comprehend the sacrifices that have been made.
The repetition of "Freedoms not free, will you see it" throughout the song is a call to listeners to recognize the reality of what it takes to achieve and maintain freedom. The use of the phrase "for the greater good" implies that while individual lives may be lost in the pursuit of freedom, it is ultimately for the benefit of society as a whole. However, the song does not necessarily provide a definitive answer to the question of whether freedom is worth the cost.
Overall, "Freedom's Not Free" is a somber and thought-provoking reflection on the sacrifice required in the pursuit of freedom. The imagery of the song conveys both the weight of this sacrifice and the sense of frustration that can arise when it seems as though people are not fully appreciating what has been lost.
