Brittney genuinely shines a new light on Glinda I haven't really seen done by other actresses (to be fair, I'm just comparing bootleg to bootleg #brokeandnotamerican). She presents a more "casual" and realistic air to Glinda; a wealthy university student who is actually quite aware of how the world works - hence placing more emphasis on lyrics in the song "did they have brains or knowledge, don't make me laugh they were popular." I love almost every rendition of Glinda that currently exists honestly. Each person brings their own interpretation - whether it is making her voice more shrilly, making her ditzy or incredibly silly. But I think Brittney's version (I am very unlucky to live in another part of the world and therefore probably never see Brittney Johnson performing the entire musical in her full glory) brings Glinda down to earth and probably makes the conflict Glinda feels in Act 2 much more powerful. GOSH I really wish I could see a full performance from these two - or even in the Wicked movie (looking at you Grande)

TONS, and I still thought they did a fun job overall and I still have favoritesfrom back then. That's because it's broadway acting. Actors give their 110% and need to make lots of gestures with their body to express emotion because you know the people in the back won't see their face. There's no over the top on broadway, unless they're screaming and making frantic movements. That's my opinion, anyways.

This video was released a day before I saw the show live and I can confirm that Brittany’s portrayal of Glinda is as amazing as it is here. She really did an excellent job making the character her own and she’s absolutely incredible at being preppy without making it too “cringy”. She’s probably my favorite portrayal of Glinda and I heavily encourage people see her before she leaves in February.

commented something similar like this before somewhere, but i LOVE brittney as glinda so much. she brings such a new, realistic air to the character. with her, its easy to feel like shes a REAL person who genuinely believes the things shes saying instead of being a caricature of a ditzy blonde. dont get me wrong, i LOVE it when glinda's really ham it up during this number, but i love how she acts like a real person who is unintentionally funny here and there without realising it. she really is great

One thing I loved about Brittney’s Glinda is that she didn’t overdo the perkiness like the other actresses (besides Kristen Chenoweth) did. She put a bit more attitude into this. I was so glad to catch a showing last October.

Britney really brought Galinda to a realistic person and not a caricature of Glinda. I have appreciated all the different actors' interpretations of this character. It is also nice to listen to this scene with less yelling the dialogue. Britney has the talent to be funny and make Galinda a real person.

IMHO: Any Glinda that is cast DESERVES to be there and has earned the right to be the best Glinda she knows how to be through her own interpretation. That being said, after you've seen Kristin and Megan, there's not much left to "make it your own". Those two NAILED Glinda and it's hard to compare.

I really hope the lighting looks better in real life. Here Brittney’s skin looks the same shade of golden yellow as her hair, which probably wasn’t the intention. Obviously the original lighting design had Kristin Chenowith in mind, but would it really be too much of a problem to adjust the lighting for actors of color, so they look like their actual skin tone and not like the bronze-painted actors from the og West Side Story movie? I know other things would be affected like sets and costumes, but I’m sure there are ways of working around it.

@mocktrialbabe Finally someone in this thread who understands how lighting is supposed to work! Like yes, you could wash out your actors or make their skin look a weird tone, but then that isn’t going to make you look good as the lighting designer. Not to mention it also impacts other departments, like costumes (example: what I said about the wig). If the Phantom productions on Broadway and in London can give their black Christines textured black wigs and curly brunette wigs for their white and white-passing Christines (and for the record, whatever they do for lighting also seems to work well on all of them), changing some gels shouldn’t be an issue.

The OP legit said that the design was for Cheno and implied that it should be changed for people of color. So yes, they meant a redesign.

@lo l ...... they just have to adjust the color temp slightly. It's not a redesign. It's a different gel color. And actually lighting the actors well is important regardless of they are green or not. They have lighting designers for s reason. If they aren't able to light her in a natural way then it speaks to who the industry expects to be on stage. The white balance also was probably just off since it was lit for the stage not the camera.

A play needs good lighting? Sure
But I would argue its also good to keep using the things that made the play so well known and recognizable.

Actors dont have to look like their skintone because honestly, who cares? They are playing a fictional character. They just have to look nice with the Christin lighting.
