Ain't Nobody's Business
Willie Nelson Wynton Marsalis Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Nothing I can say
That folks don't criticize me
But I'm gonna do
Just what I want to anyway
Don't care if they all despise me
If I go to church on Sunday
Ain't nobody's business if I do
And if I should get a feeling
I wanna dance upon the ceiling
Ain't nobody's business, oh it ain't nobody's business if I do
If I stay out all night
Spend all my money, well that's all right
It ain't nobody's business if I do
You try to tell me I got no right to sing the blues
What gives you the right to tell me what I should do?
It ain't nobody's, ain't nobody's business if I do
Well it ain't nobody's business
It ain't no it ain't nobody's business
You know it ain't nobody's business
Ain't nobody's business what I do
Whoa what I do
You know it ain't nobody's business
Ain't nobody's business if I do
The lyrics of "Ain't Nobody's Business" by Willie Nelson and Wynton Marsalis suggest that the singer is tired of others criticizing their every move. They explain that they will continue to do what they want to do and it is nobody else's business to judge. The singer points out that even if they spend their Sundays in church and their Mondays partying, it's not anyone else's concern. If they want to dance on the ceiling or stay out all night, it's their own right to make those choices, and they don't need anyone else's approval. They even state that it's not anyone's place to tell them that they have no right to sing the blues.
The song's lyrics speak to the desire for autonomy and personal freedom, inviting listeners to stand up for themselves and their choices. They suggest that people can't always control the opinions of others, but they do have the power to live life on their own terms. The song's lyrics reflect on an important theme of individuality and authenticity, reminding listeners of the importance of staying true to oneself even when others may not approve or understand.

Willy is the Thelonious Monk of the guitar; he never goes where you think he's going. Everybody else is playing generic clichés, Willy's the only one with original ideas. BTW, the bass is too loud, this isn't R&R.
