I swear I'll run away from every home I ever have

When I was growing up, I was the smartest kid I knew.
As a child, I believed I was the most intelligent among my peers.

Maybe that was just because I didn't know that many kids.
Perhaps my self-perceived intelligence was merely a result of limited exposure to other children.

All I know is now I feel the opposite.
As an adult, I feel the opposite of how I felt as a child.

Like if you don't want to work, then that becomes your job.
If you have no desire to work, your job in life becomes avoiding work.

There's a lot of overtime, there's not many days off.
If you are constantly avoiding work, you will have little free time.

I hope you know that I'm not trying to complain.
I don't want to sound like I'm whining.

It just gets hard to explain to people that I know, or kids who come to shows
It's challenging to describe my lifestyle to acquaintances and young people who attend my concerts.

That I just don't want to talk about the office today.
I have no interest in discussing work-related topics.

'Cause I've watched friends go from being pessimists to work at home archaeologists
I have seen friends go from hopeless individuals to people who excavate artifacts from their homes.

They dig skin deep, they work every day
They 'dig' beneath the surface and work nonstop.

I'm burying their arms for a vein or two that maybe they forgot.
I'm hiding their arms so they can't shoot up drugs they might have forgotten they had.

And the cops say it's a crime for people like me
Police consider individuals like me to be criminals.

And those friends of mine to want to die
And my friends who want to die.

Like my neighbor in St. Pete
A resident of St. Petersburg, likely a person I know.

She's been on house arrest down here
She is confined to her home by legal mandate.

If she tries to leave her yard they'll lock her in a cage for years.
If she attempts to escape her property, she will be imprisoned for an extended period.

Cause sometimes she wants to die.
She experiences suicidal ideation at times.

And she shoots dope when she thinks she could die
She uses drugs when she contemplates dying.

And the law they caught her one too many times
The authorities have apprehended her multiple times.

Shooting dope when she felt like she could die.
Using drugs when she feels like she might attempt suicide.

We're building a new world, all of my friends and me
My friends and I are constructing a new society.

It's not an exact science yet, but we have the technology.
While it's not a precise process, we possess the necessary tools.

Now all we need is an economy
Our final requirement is an economic system.

Where everybody finally will get enough to eat, even the suburbs
A society in which all individuals have sufficient sustenance, even suburban residents.

No powers getting too crooked to stand on its own feet for much longer than it has.
No one entity is becoming too corrupt to survive independently for long.

So I don't want to kill a cop,
I do not want to harm a police officer.

What I want is neighborhoods where they don't have to get called
Rather, I desire an environment in which cops are not frequently summoned.

When the shit goes down
During times of turmoil.

Cause our friends, they are enough, and our neighbors have enough.
Our friends and neighbors provide ample support and provision.

Finally we're enough.
We have enough to meet our needs.

Fuck the law cause we're enough
We do not need to follow the law because we have enough resources and support.

We don't need a boss because we are capable on our own.

We do not need Microsoft, or any major corporation, because we have enough resources and support.

We can succeed and thrive without your help.

We do not need to relocate to Brooklyn, or any other place, because we have enough resources and support.
