In "African Bad Gyal," Wizkid, a Nigerian singer and songwriter, celebrates the beauty and power of African women. The song, produced by Sarz, features a blend of Afrobeats, dancehall, and pop music, adding to its catchy and upbeat rhythm. Wizkid shows his appreciation for the confidence, style, and grace of African women regardless of their country or background. He emphasizes that these women are not to be underestimated and their beauty and boldness are unique to them.
The first verse of the song sets the tone with a repeated phrase "them no born me yesterday," which means no one can deceive him. He acknowledges that every woman desires designer clothes and accessories, but he's not naïve to assume that love won't come at a cost. Wizkid also admits to feeling something special from a girl's moves, likening it to the feeling of being set on fire. He then proceeds to ask questions, wondering if the girl is from Ghana, Somalia, Uganda, or Nigeria, exemplifying the diversity of African countries.
In the chorus, Wizkid tells the African bad gyal not to change her style because he loves her just the way she is. He appreciates her ability to dance to different music genres, in this case, galala and konto, and loves the things she does to make him feel alive. Being a bad gyal means being confident and living unapologetically, and for Wizkid, these are qualities worth admiring in a woman.
