Being much too young to watch this when it originally aired, I caught this show in my adulthood when I could truly appreciate it for what it was and has jumped to the top of some of the most respected works of art I’ve ever witnessed.

I was a big fan growing up of Italian gangster films, like "The Godfather" (1972) or “Goodfellas” (1990), so it never made any sense why it took me so long to get around to this one. As a kid I remember seeing glimpses of it on TV, in particular, one of the most violent scenes I could could’ve witness and that’s where I learned what ‘curb stomping’ meant.

James Gandolfini took my heart away with this show! I could’ve watched that man perform for hours straight! I wish we could’ve seen more of Gandolfini before he passed, but I’m thankful for what he gave us and am continually inspired by his work and dedication to character. 'Tony Soprano' has outweighed all my favorite on-screen gangsters, but maybe that’s because we got to live with him for so long over the course of 86 hour long episodes. That’s over 5,000 hours of 'Tony Soprano'. Compared to the normal 2-3 we get in films. We got the day in the life, the intimate, the little moments, the humanity of a ‘gangster’ and getting to see more inside the mind of him.

Speaking of inside the mind of him, Lorraine Bracco is the mastermind therapist who allows us to get inside the head of mob boss 'Tony Soprano'. It’s one of my favorite elements of the show, breaking down the toughest of the tough and we get a therapy session almost every episode. It’s the heart of the show. It’s the heart of 'Tony Soprano' we get to see in there. Bracco’s been stuck in my mind ever since I saw her in Martin Scorsese’s “Goodfellas” (1990) and was so pleased to see she was a regular on “The Sopranos” (1999-2007). It makes all the meta-references in the show to “Goodfellas” (1990) all the more enjoyable!

There’s more than just a couple people from “Goodfellas” (1990) that made it into “The Sopranos” (1999-2007), but Michael Imperioli might be my most memorable part of watching “Goodfellas” (1990) as the poor bartender/waiter who gets shot by Joe Pesci’s character. He truly gets to shine in ways unimaginable in this show as ‘Christopher Moltisanti’! One of my favorite characters!

Edie Falco, who plays 'Tony Soprano'’s wife, is what makes this show work so god d*** well! She’s the toughest person in this show by far! Seeing her side by side with James Gandolfini in a scene is like nothing else! They are magic together on the screen, whether it’s heated or sweet, or anywhere in the middle, it’s their chemistry that has captured me so in this show!

From Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Tony Sirico, Drea de Matteo, Steven Van Zandt, to Dominic Chianese, and so many others, this show really has an incredible ensemble that help create the intricate and exciting universe that is “The Sopranos” (1999-2007). Not to mention all the incredible season cameos and guest stars that grace this show with their presence as well!

It broke the walls of what a hero and villain could mean, giving us the first true anti-hero that we fell in love with on the television. “The Sopranos” (1999-2007) has paved the way for some of the biggest hits of today’s generation and more, from AMC’s “Breaking Bad” to Showtime’s “Dexter” and so many more! “Dexter” remained a favorite for years, then I saw where it came from and had to give my respect to the original.. “The Sopranos” may take the cake for my favorite show of all time.

It warms my heart to see James Gandolfini’s son, Michael Gandolfini, taking the mantle to a degree, and getting to play a young ‘Tony Soprano’ in the upcoming prequel film “The Many Saints of Newark” (2021) which will be directed by “The Sopranos” (1999-2007) creator David Chase. The old team really is getting back together in new and exciting ways! I can’t wait!

@Jim Nacosta I gotta agree with you. I’m black but I love the sopranos but the film was pointless. The blk people in the film were irrelevant to the story, especially when you consider that junior killed dickie. Why not just make a film about their beef instead of adding all this racial stuff? I get it, it was the 60s but cmon…nobody who is a fan of the sopranos didn’t watch it for that. We wanted to see the main characters and why dickie died.

The reason they included the Newark riots was because that what was going on during that time and based on my grandma who lived during that time it was pretty accurate. I think the reason why some people didn’t like it was because they had way too high expectations. Because let’s face it. The sopranos was one of the greatest television shows ever made so no movie was gonna be as good as the original show. So for what it was and what David chase had to work with I think they did a great job. I wish they would’ve included more scenes with younger Tony tho

I was reluctant to start watching this show because it's so long. Finally decided to give it a go this quarantine, finished it 3 days ago and it is honestly the greatest show I've ever committed to. 86 episodes and there isn't a single bad episode, nor a single bad character. It's such a brilliant show that you don't want it to end. A huge shout out to David Chase and the entire team of writers on the Sopranos for making it the masterpiece that it is. So excited for The Many Saints of Newark.

Very true. If you notice, he’s leaving NY from the holland tunnel. (Most likely meeting the New York). He enters the really sketch parts passing Exit 13 A (Elizabeth) most likely doing business. And FINALLY he makes it home which is in North Caldwell. They werent joking when they said he ran north jersey.

What makes The Sopranos stand above all other shows is how attached you feel to the characters. Once it finishes you find yourself constantly thinking about them, and even missing them as if you knew them all personally. That's thanks to amazing writing by David Chase and brilliant acting by the actors and actresses.

absolutely loved the sopranos when it was on. I saw every episode multiple times. For me after a decade, on rewatch I didn't enjoy it as much as before and the later seasons kinda dragged. I feel like the WIRE had better writing all the way through and a way of switching perspectives that kept the story fresh. Amazing how many ridiculously good shows HBO has made through the years

I finished watching today. I am overwhelmed with all sorts of emotions. I will never forgive myself for not being able to stop watching the show as quickly as I did. I feel devastated and I want to cry that such characters have left my life who have already become almost family during the viewing. A great series, great actors. Thanks for everything.

Being one of the BIGGEST fans of this series, I must say it gave me CHILLS with the opening trailer scene with Young Gandolfini, with the simple phrase : "Whatcha say", The tilt in his head, the position of his teeth, tone of voice, and that last split second of pure RAGE in his eyes that we have all known to love & become drawn in by James' ability to take us on an adventure down a dark path of love loyalty and deception!

I've been listening to this song for years, but I never thought about its meaning. You know... that bad ass bass and the picture of that bad ass Tony Soprano driving in my head, always made me think about this song as a bad ass dude song.
But, in reality, it has a really deep meaning. If you pay attention you'll understand that is about that kind of void that at some part of our lives we suddenly feel, out of nowhere. The "wtf is all this about?" Kind of void. When you look around you and only see your meaningless life in a meaningless world.
"You are one in a million! You were born to shine!" But in reality you were born "with a blue moon in your eyes", where blue is the "musical" colour of depression and in "your eyes" stands for "your destiny", like "you know, there's nothing to do about it".
In the version with the spoken intro, which is even better than this version, the singer's monologue talks about it pretty clearly, and also quotes dead bluesmen and jazz players/singers, marking how this life was, even for those talented artists, unfair and often empty.

This song is so incredibly deep in meaning for those whose mood matches the one of the singer, and if you think about it, it matches completely the mood of Tony in the TV series.
I suggest you to hear the version with the spoken intro, cause is even more bad ass than this.

I often connect this song with the moment when Tonny's son has just realised who actually is his dad. The scene in the funeral where they look each other - father and son and Tonny Soprano wink to his son was unforgetable and inspiring! It's seems like Tonny Soprano sayes - You finally know who's Your dady is!
