Far From Home

Right on the corner of Sin City
Scrub at the stains that will never, ever leave
You're so far from home
That's when they found you drinking in the cemetery
Running makeup, feelin' so dirty
Torn up clothes to match my bruised and bloodied knees
You're so far from home
Well, I'm here for good times baby, there's just a price
In all the misery you bring
Oh, how the angels start to see
All the lies you weave won't save, won't save you!
All the scars you hide beneath
Oh, how you lie right through your teeth
All the angels have forsaken, forsaken you!
Well, I could truly never look you in the eyes
With what I've done it should be no surprise
Cut me up to see the light inside has died
You're so far from home
Lick me up to taste the sweet formaldehyde
Kiss my lips because they're laced with cyanide
You'd better run, you'd better try to fucking hide
You're so far from home
Lick up my sweet lies baby, just for tonight
In all the misery you bring
Oh, how the angels start to see
All the lies you weave won't save, won't save you!
All the scars you hide beneath
Oh, how you lie right through your teeth
All the angels have forsaken, forsaken you!
But what if there's more, I want some more, give me some more
What if I want it all? Just give me it all
I'll take it all
I'll take the world
This is not a dream
This is not a dream
In all the misery you bring
Oh, how the angels start to see
All the lies you weave won't save, won't save you!
All the scars you hide beneath
Oh, how you lie right through your teeth
All the angels have forsaken, forsaken you!
For your mothers, for your fathers, for your sisters and your brothers and your lover
The lyrics of "Far from Home" by Wolf & Chain showcase a narrative of intense emotional turmoil and darkness. The imagery of checking into the "Hotel Misery" in Sin City sets the tone for a bleak and desolate atmosphere. The singer is depicted as being far away from their original home both physically and emotionally, seeking solace in unhealthy coping mechanisms like drinking in a cemetery and wearing torn clothes to match their bruised knees.
The chorus delves into the consequences of the misery and lies that the singer brings into their life. The mention of angels seeing through the deception and forsaking the singer adds a layer of spiritual and moral judgment to the narrative. The tension between the facade of deceit and the reality of hidden scars is palpable throughout, creating a sense of inner conflict and isolation.
The second verse portrays a sense of self-awareness and resignation to the darkness within. The imagery of cutting oneself to find the inner light extinguished and tasting poison in a kiss highlights a self-destructive mindset and a desire to escape from oneself. The urgency to run and hide further emphasizes the theme of being lost and disconnected from any sense of home or security.
The climax of the song shifts towards a desire for more, for everything, for the world. This longing for excess and fulfillment contrasts sharply with the earlier themes of despair and self-destruction. The repeated assertion that "this is not a dream" reinforces the harsh reality the singer finds themselves in, where lies and scars intertwine, and angels have turned away.
The final plea to remember and honor loved ones - mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, and lovers - brings a poignant end to the song, humanizing the singer in their struggle and calling attention to the consequences of their actions on those who care about them. Overall, "Far from Home" paints a vivid picture of inner turmoil, deception, and a longing for an escape or redemption that seems out of reach.
