Another Brick In The Wall
Wright Luther And The Wrongs Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Daddy's flown across the ocean
Leaving just a memory
Snapshot in the family album
Daddy what else did you leave for me?
Daddy, what'd'ja leave behind for me?
All in all it was just a brick in the wall
All in all it was all just bricks in the wall

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Wright Luther and the Wrongs song 'Another Brick In The Wall' speak to a sense of emptiness and abandonment. The opening lines reveal that the singer's father has gone away, leaving behind only a memory - a snapshot in the family album. The repetition of the word 'Daddy' throughout the song suggests a childlike desperation, a longing for the absent parent to return and provide some sort of explanation or comfort. The question 'Daddy what else did you leave for me?' implies that the singer feels like they have been left with nothing but uncertainty and confusion.

In the next lines, the lyrics take on a more ominous tone, as the singer suggests that their father's absence was not just emotional, but served to contribute to a larger, more oppressive system. The image of a wall made up of bricks reinforces a sense of entrapment and confinement, as though the singer is trapped within a larger structure that they cannot escape. The final line - 'All in all it was all just bricks in the wall' - implies a sense of resignation, as though the singer has come to accept that their life is just one small, insignificant piece of a larger, uncaring system.

Discovered them at Stan Rogers Festival a number of years ago and loved them. Especially this song.

@RickKickass

Every moment, every hint, every thought, every last little notion of the original album has been represented perfectly. Imagine that an oyster decided to create a perfect pear - and also happened to have a fiddle and a banjo nearby.
