Holiday
Wright Richard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It was meant to be a holiday
Building castles by the sea
Another way to live for you and me
Time to pause, consider what we've done
The wind is blowing, so come,
Let's take a holiday

How was I to know quite so soon
That dreams can turn a life,
Around it seems
There is no single way to live our days
Between these lines I know you see a man
Who's not quite sure who he is
Or where he stands

Sail on
Sail on, across the sea
Ride the waves, feel the breeze
Sail on
There's no other way I'd rather be

Destiny, reality are just a dream
Raise the sails, the wind is free
Every day I become more confused
Which way to go, how to choose

Back at home, what holds me here
Shut in not moving, only half a life
Clouds hang heavy, they leave me cold
It doesn't have to be this way
The wind is blowing, so come,
Let's take a holiday

Sail on
Sail on, across the sea
Ride the waves, feel the breeze
Sail on
There's no other way I'd rather be

Sail on
Sail on, across the sea
Ride the waves, feel the breeze
Sail on
There's no other way I'd rather be

Sail on
Sail on
Sail on
Sail on
There's no other way I'd rather be

Sail on
Sail on

Overall Meaning

The song "Holiday" by Richard Wright tells a story about two people who decide to take a break and go on a holiday together to build castles by the sea. It's an escape from their everyday lives, giving them a chance to pause and reflect on what they've done. The lyrics imply that sometimes our lives can be confusing and we don't always know who we are or where we stand. The holiday represents freedom and a chance to explore possibilities, away from the mundanity of daily routines.

The song also conveys a sense of peace and tranquility, symbolized by the waves and breeze of the sea. The singer expresses his desire to sail on and ride the waves, indicating that he wants to keep exploring and moving forward. He feels that destiny and reality are just a dream, and the wind represents the freedom to steer his life in any direction he chooses. The chorus repeats the line "Sail on," emphasizing the idea that he intends to keep moving forward towards an unknown destination.

Overall, "Holiday" can be interpreted as a message about taking a break from the hectic pace of modern life to find some inner peace and reconnect with ourselves. The song encourages us to explore the world and seek new experiences, so that we can find direction and purpose in our lives.

I love this album it is so peaceful and beautifully put together. My heart goes out to Jamie and Gala. I know it has been hard on them since Rick's 73rd birthday is coming up. I know what it's like to lose a parent to cancer and it is not easy.

Nikki N rick was a wonderful stellar talent.
I,m still discovering his albums.
Including the enchanting Broken China.

This album is exactly the kind of record you'd expect Mr. Wright to have made. I like to think of it as his musical autobiography.

Lissy

His voice is so soft and rich, it's so underrated.
