Get Off
XC-NN Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All the kids got headaches
All the kids got rhythm
We've all got multiple symptoms
And we all need medical care
And we all wear uniforms
It's out of control and it's coming back to get ya
Take to your cars and get out of town
Take what you can, grab what's left
Or give it away and get it off your chest
Dadda wants you to go drive a tank
Mamma wants you to keep out of trouble
And somehow avoid all the flak
It's a bottom, it's a bottomless pit

Bonsai gone west

They earn difficult money
Then move on out to the country

So high you can't get over it
So low you can't get under it
So wide you can't get round it
Oh, could you be loved?

1,2,3,4
Get on the dance floor, get off

8,7,6,5
Get off, get a life

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in XC-NN's song "Get Off" may initially seem disconnected, but when looked at as a whole, they can be interpreted as a commentary on society's ills and the need to break free from them. The first few lines allude to a sick and troubled generation of youths, who are bound by conformity and need medical attention. The mention of uniforms reinforces the idea of society's limitations and the need for individuality. The line "It's out of control and it's coming back to get ya" implies that these limitations will ultimately have negative consequences for society as a whole.

The second stanza with the lines "Bonsai gone west/They earn difficult money/Then move on out to the country" could be interpreted as a critique of capitalism and the difficulty of making a livable income in modern society. The imagery can be seen as a metaphor for growth and expansion being stunted by the constraints of society, leading many to leave the city in search of a simpler life.

The third stanza with the line "So high you can't get over it/So low you can't get under it/So wide you can't get round it" is a reference to the classic song "Could You Be Loved" by Bob Marley. This line suggests that societal issues can feel overwhelming and insurmountable, but it ends with the line "Get on the dance floor, get off/Get off, get a life," encouraging people to break free from societal restrictions and live their own lives.

Overall, XC-NN's "Get Off" can be viewed as a call to action for individuals to break free of societal limitations and live their lives on their own terms.
