Empire State of Mind
alicia keys & stephen colbert Lyrics

Ooh, New York
Ooh, New York

Grew up in a town that is famous as a place of movie scenes
Noise is always loud, there are sirens all around and the streets are mean
If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere, that's what they say
Seeing my face in lights or my name on marquees found down on Broadway
Even if it ain't all it seems, I got a pocketful of dreams

Baby, I'm from New York
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There's nothing you can't do
Now you're in New York
These streets will make you feel brand new
Big lights will inspire you
Hear it for New York, New York, New York

On the avenue, there ain't never a curfew, ladies work so hard
Such a melting pot, on the corner selling rock, preachers pray to God
Hail a gypsy cab, takes me down from Harlem to the Brooklyn Bridge
Someone sleeps tonight with a hunger far more than an empty fridge
I'ma make it by any means, I got a pocketful of dreams

Baby, I'm from New York
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There's nothing you can't do
Now you're in New York
These streets will make you feel brand new
Big lights will inspire you
Hear it for New York, New York, New York

One hand in the air for the big city
Street lights, big dreams, all looking pretty
No place in the world that can compare
Put your lighters in the air, everybody say
Yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah

In New York
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There's nothing you can't do
Now you're in New York
These streets will make you feel brand new
Big lights will inspire you
Hear it for New York

Just saw this for the 1st time, 4/3/20, following watching recent segments of quarantined Colbert in his office, with Keys in her home performing her new song about us all living with being quarantined.

Even mentioned people flushing hand wipes down the pipes. Think the following line was what's THAT about? Guess people are clogging the plumbing all over the country...since some of us have no sense.

Also, some are freaking out since they can't afford or find the wipes.

When we're home, we can use soap & water, which is far more effective than alcohol wipes.

Why not just buy inexpensive & pleniful bottles of alcohol, pour some into a small spray bottle to keep in computer bag, backpack, men's or lady's bags, & just spray hands & surfaces where sick people or general population have touched.

If no one's sick with COVID19 in the house, & no one's been out of the house in weeks, there's no need to spray or wash hands every 10 minutes, or rub hands with alcohol wipes.

If just in the house, watching TV, while quarantined, relax.

Jack Straw

One of the greatest performances of all times....on Colbert:) This entire version should be available for everyone to see. You know it's good when the singers and musicians are smiling and having a good time. I don't know why it vanished but I'm sure it has to do with money.

This really was an amazing performance. I can't stop listening to my mp3 of it. It's pretty much the top played song in my iTunes now. So awesome!!

Helena Lawe

This was awesome! Colbert ROCKS!!! She's really feeling the performance with him. They should do a studio recording of this.

William Heinselman

this performance was like a LOVE STORY come true. A positive in such a negetive world. I get happy everytime I watch it. MORE MORE MORE!!

Over a year later, the bit when he walking down the stair behind the piano still gets me everytime.

He's so great at what he does! I love that spin move. I love his Charlene song, his rap "battle" with Michael Steele, and when he danced on his show to kill time during the writer's strike. He did it so perfectly :D
