Center Of The Sun
conjure one/conjure once Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Young girl in the market
Music to the men
When the men leave
Her eyes are red
When her eyes are closed again she sees the dark market of above

And she sings
'They say the most horrible things
But I hear violins, when I close my eyes
I am at the center of the sun
And I cannot be hurt
By anything this wicked world has done'

Young boy in the market
Follows all the men
When the men leave
He's out of his head
When his eyes are closed again he sees the dark market of above

And he sings
'They break the most beautiful things
But I hear violins, when I close my eyes
I am at the center of the sun
And I cannot be hurt
By anything this wicked world has done
I look into your eyes
And I am at the center of the sun
And I cannot be hurt
By anything this wicked world has done'

Center of the sun

Young boy in the market
Sees the girl alone
And asks her
'Have you lost your way home?'
She sings
'You say the most beautiful things, just like my violins'

I look into your eyes
I am at the center of the sun
And I cannot be hurt
By anything this wicked world has done

When I close my eyes
I am at the center of the sun
And I cannot be hurt
By anything this wicked world has done

'Cause
I hear violins
I hear violins

I hear violins
I hear violins

Center of the sun

I hear ...violins

Overall Meaning

The song “Center of the Sun” by Conjure One is a contemplative and philosophical piece that delves into the intrinsic nature of human resilience and the various ways individuals deal with the struggles of life. The song begins by introducing us to a young girl in the market who performs music for the men that come to the market to purchase goods. When the men leave, she is left alone and her eyes are red, possibly from the constant state of fear and anxiety she endures in the dangerous market. However, the girl finds solace in her subconscious mind and imagines herself at the center of the sun where nothing can hurt her. She hears violins playing even amidst the harshness of the world around her, providing her with a source of comfort and strength.

Next, we are introduced to a young boy who follows the men in the market and is similarly affected by the atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. When he sees the girl alone, he sings the same lyrics as her, indicating a shared experience of struggling through difficult times. However, this time, they sing together, exchanging beautiful words and allowing themselves to fully embrace the power of the music that plays within them. The song concludes with the repetition of the refrain “I hear violins" that serves as a reminder of the transcendental nature of music, how it has the power to move and inspire us even in the darkest of times.

Overall, the song can be interpreted as an ode to the human spirit and resilience, and how sometimes, individuals find solace in the simplest things, sometimes disregarding the physical and observing the transcendental power of their own internal world, encapsulated beautifully in the lyrics “I am at the center of the sun, and I cannot be hurt, by anything this wicked world has done”.

The singer/lyric and melody writer/and co-producer of this song is an artist named POE.  All the lyrics were written by her.  She is incredible and should always be credited and deserves far more attention.  Her own albums are amazing.

The video editing and pairing with this gorgeous song was truly pure genius! Bravo!!

ZankuroMinazuki

If this video debuted at Anime Expo in 2003 (I think) I was running the sound board that night! I was really impressed with the video and I stopped by a music store and pickup up the album as I loved the song. I heard so many new songs that I went out and bought the albums of that night! Great work!

i knew about it, vaguely, mostly from the cover art and from maybe one review read ages ago...knew for a fact that it was the 2001 anime interpretation of Fritz Lang's classic film based on Osamu Tezuka's 1945 illustrations but had not actually seen it..just from the segments shown and used in this video, i can already tell this is another anime that would make me cry... the other being Grave of the Fireflies .

Blackened Heart Studio

It's a movie called Metropolis. One of the few that almost made me cry at the end. It looks like a kid's movie but is far from.
