Dustin also has a solo acoustic side project under his own name. He had toured in past years on his own under the moniker "Ursus Veritas," but decided to drop the name in favor of simplicity since "people have enough trouble just pronouncing [his] last name to begin with." The name was a play-on-words of its Latin components: Ursus meaning bear, and Veritas meaning truth. Kensrue has been quoted as saying there is no real special significance to the name, other than he likes bears, and thought it sounded cool.
On January 23, 2007, Kensrue released a solo album titled "Please Come Home" under his name, Dustin Kensrue and on the label Equal Vision Records. It includes the tracks "I Knew You Before," "Pistol," "I Believe," "Please Come Home," "Blood & Wine," "Consider The Ravens," "Weary Saints," and "Blanket Of Ghosts." He wrapped up the recording and mixing of the album at the home of fellow Thrice member Teppei Teranishi. The album opened at 142 on the Billboard 200 with 5,800 copies sold. He supported the album with a solo tour including stops on David Letterman's talk show and The Fuse Network.

BLOOD

I've been with Cindy and her sister too
Now I'm tryin' to settle down
Start a family with that cute little Kim
Oh, now that I've tasted blood, now this wine tastes too thin
I've got a needle, don't be alarmed
It shoots streams of lovely things into my arm
Oh, now that I've tasted blood, now this wine seems too thin
Sometimes the white coats they hide black hearts
We've learned to sugar coat the same black guards
Well, I turn lead into gold, I'll cure original sin
Oh, now that I've tasted blood, now this wine seems too thin
Oh, well I walked in the bank and I pulled out my gun
You should've seen those people scream and run
I used to make an honest buck, how can I go back to that again?
Oh, now that I've tasted blood, now this wine seems too thin
Oh, now that I've tasted blood, now this wine seems too thin
Oh, now that I've tasted blood, now this wine seems too thin
The song "Blood & Wine" by Dustin Kensrue seems to be a reflection on a life that has spiraled out of control. The singer has slept around with Sally, Sue, Cindy, and her sister but wants to settle down with a woman named Kim. However, they have been addicted to heroin and now cannot enjoy anything without the high of the drug. The needle is a representation of the addiction that has consumed the singer, and they would do anything to get their hands on more.
The lyrics also touch on the idea of repression and how society has learned to sugarcoat the truth. The "white coats" referred to are likely doctors, who are supposed to help people but sometimes hide their own dark sides. The singer also claims to be able to turn lead into gold and cure original sin, which could be an allusion to the idea of alchemy and the quest for enlightenment. In the end, the singer's addiction becomes so all-consuming that they resort to robbing a bank, lamenting that they can never return to a normal life.
