Lyrics and Music by Andrew Weiss
When we're old and gray, and the world forgets who we were
Put your head on my pillow, and I'll sing you back to sleep
Don't apologize, don't look at me with those eyes
Heartache is always a two-way street, even when we can't see it
Maybe you'll know who I am, maybe it's out of our hands
What is a dream? Are we dreaming? Does it even matter?
It's no use sleeping with a light on, no use trying to run away
Oooo, nobody leaves the light on in a house where no one is home
Oooo, I'm not done falling in love yet, and I don't think I ever will be
Isn't it the worst when you need to talk?
But I'm waiting for a cause I feel connected to
I pray for the moment where I find my purpose, I hope I see you there
I don't know if that's what you needed to hear, but I know I need to hear it from you
Oooo, nobody leaves the light on in a house where no one is home
Oooo, I'm not done falling in love yet, and I don't think I ever will be
Don't think I'll ever be, I'll ever be, don't think I'll never be, I'll ever be
The song "To Sleep Without Dreaming" by Friends explores themes of love, connection, and the ambiguity of dreams. The lyrics convey a sense of longing and vulnerability, as well as a deep desire for a meaningful connection with someone else.
The opening lines, "When we're old and gray, and the world forgets who we were, Put your head on my pillow, and I'll sing you back to sleep," suggest a yearning for intimacy and companionship as the world ages and memories fade away. The singer offers comfort and solace, hoping to create a safe space where they can lull their partner into sleep. The phrase "Heartache is always a two-way street, even when we can't see it" reflects the understanding that relationships require both parties to navigate through difficult emotions, even if they are not immediately apparent.
The chorus introduces questions about the nature of dreams: "What is a dream? Are we dreaming? Does it even matter?" These lines contemplate the significance and impact of dreams on our lives, raising the idea that dreams might hold a deeper meaning or influence our actions. The mention of sleeping with the light on and trying to run away suggests an attempt to avoid confronting one's own thoughts or fears.
The next verse acknowledges the frustration of needing to talk but waiting for a cause, a topic that truly resonates and connects deeply with the singer. They express a desire to find their purpose and hold onto hope for a meaningful encounter or experience, possibly with the person they are addressing in the song.
The repetition of the lines "Oooo, nobody leaves the light on in a house where no one is home" emphasizes the idea that without love and connection, a place can feel empty and devoid of warmth. The final lines, "I'm not done falling in love yet, and I don't think I ever will be. Don't think I'll ever be, I'll ever be, don't think I'll never be, I'll ever be," convey a sense of optimism and openness to love, suggesting that the singer believes they will continue to fall in love and experience profound connections throughout their life.
Overall, "To Sleep Without Dreaming" delves into the complexity of emotions in relationships, the significance of dreams, and the longing for love and purpose.

my math teacher woke me up from the slumped position with hitting me desk with her pointer thing, bro asked me if i knew the answer💀💀
@addystokes08
I’ve done that multiple times. And pro tip. If the teacher ever asks for the answer. Just say a random number or smth. Cuz there’s that one chance you could be right and you’d blow the classes mind. Tho. It didn’t work well for me today when i was in math. And dead asleep. And my teacher asked me the answer. And i said Abraham lincoln. Spoiler alert. It wasn’t Abraham Lincoln. But you gotta do what u gotta do😂
