@PyroFilmsFX Guilt has nothing to do with your perceived division of class between you and the mentally ill homeless man you encountered. It's weird to me that you even went there, like telling people you think you're in a higher class of society than someone who's deeply ill in a society that prefers to think of him as a nuisance and demands payment for care, is not something I'd advise but at least it's upfront. I guess.

In order to enable someone, you first need to be in a position to influence their lives, because you'd need to be familiar with this person and their negative behaviours and then assist them - passively or actively - in indulging in those negative behaviours.

That's not at all what society is doing with the mentally ill and homeless. Enabling? How does installing metal spikes where homeless people sleep enabling? How is making vagrancy and squatting criminal offences enabling? How is making mental health care a cash business along with medical care enabling? Having the highest prescription drug prices in the Western world? Enabling?

That's deprivation. Quiet attempts to profit off the suffering of others is literally the definition of capitalism and the US brand of "free market capitalism" is why no one in the US can afford to get sufficient mental health care to become functional in society.

Capitalist society is a me game, people look out for #1, evidenced by you closing the door in the face of a severely mentally ill man who is suffering so profoundly from his illness that he is completely incapable of controlling himself and his life and sleeps on the streets.

That's what people do. They tune it out and continue on their selfish way. Because who helped you, right? Why should anyone else get help? No one helped you.

But you know what people who aren't frigid, nihilistic, and incapable of higher functions of human emotion do sometimes? Sometimes they do make eye contact, or see some act of desperation, some cruel truth of severe mental illness, or witness some heartbreaking event. And they feel guilty. They feel guilty for not doing anything to help people. They feel a sense of injustice that such a wealthy country can permit such suffering and leave people who so clearly need some help to drown in their trauma and illness.

The fact that you have never experienced that does not negate the fact that most people do. I question why you're unable to feel any compassion or empathy at all, your reply made that clear, you should maybe figure that out.

Thin Line Of Sanity

4:30 - this is the part of the story I always struggled with....
How the heck did all these neighbors smell a stench from the barn, but the family never smelled anything?? 🤔
Its just really odd.
6:00 - the corner may have thought that the body being in a barn, barn probably means animals, so animals probably got the foot and carried it off to scavage.
The coroner not missing a foot that had been in a barn for 6 months isnt as suspicious as the family not having smelled him in that 6 months. Or at least thats how i feel about it.

I know its hard for the family to believe but it seems he wasnt living the life his family thought he was.
He had obviously gotten rid of his car awhile before his supposed visit, because he took the train and did all that traveling without it. So he probably sold it awhile before.
It seems like he wasnt thrilled about being the father of a new baby. The distance between him and the mother being over 600km couldn't have been easy. He was probably stressed, didnt know what to do, and saw only one way out. Its sad, but sadly...it happens.
