I'm Sitting On Top Of The World
his Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm sitting on top of the world
Just rolling along, Just rolling along
I'm quitting the blues of the world
Just singing a song, just singing a song
"Glory Hallelujah," I just phoned the Parson
"Hey, Par get ready to call"
Just like Humpty Dumpty, I'm going to fall
I'm sitting on top of the world
Just rolling along, Just rolling along

I'm sitting on top of the world
Just rolling along, just rolling along
I'm quitting the blues of the world
Just singing a song, just singing a song
"Glory Hallelujah," I just phoned the Parson
"Hey, Par get ready to call"

Just like Humpty Dumpty, I'm going to fall
I'm sitting on top of the world

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "I'm Sitting On Top Of The World" by His Orchestra convey a sense of joy and contentment. The singer expresses the feeling of being on top of the world and rolling along, with no cares or worries. They are leaving behind the blues of the world and instead, choosing to sing a song. The mention of calling the Parson and saying "Glory Hallelujah" implies a sense of celebration or perhaps a newfound spiritual connection.

The reference to Humpty Dumpty is interesting, as it suggests a vulnerability or the possibility of a fall. However, despite this, the singer remains positive and continues to sit on top of the world. This is the second Rich session included in Brian Rust's American Dance Band Discography [1975 ed}. He lists Hymie Farberman and Mike Mosiello or Leo McConville as the trumpets and Earl Kelly as trombone.

I LOVE These Harmony, Diva, Velvet Tone, Clearion Records! Silvertone, used these Columbia issues as there sorse as well! How the Harmony Label came about, Is as far as I know, Columbia had re engineered and Bought a huge amount of Acoustical equipment in 1923! Then before they could get going good with the new equipment, Victor introduced their Electrical Recording just as Columbia was working on their own Electrical equipment! Well Columbia issued the New electrical process Records with the first being on the so called Flag Label (It was actually two Banners!) But Columbia had invested a lot of coin in to the new "Acoustical" equipment! So instead of junking the expensive equipment, They took a Columbia name from the past 1900`s "Harmony" and started a cheaper subsidiary label! They were a Huge Success, Other labels came out for Five and Ten cent stores for folks who wanted Great Records at a better price! A Super Brilliant idea I believe! Acoustical records were produced until mid 1930! You may already know this! But I have had folks ask Me about why the Columbia Record corp., would still issue Acoustically Recorded Records so late!

This sounds like an acoustic recording. Was this because Harmony was a budget label? Excellent upload, thank you.

Yes It's acoustic, and sometimes the sound is surprisingly good. I was just playing a Harmony of "I'm On My Way Home" by Irving Kaufman and I can hear his sibilants and I think I can even hear him inhale between lines, I doubt if it's my imagination. As loud as Irving's singing is I imagine his inhaling could be loud too!
