Their feet they flew
Announcing life
Nobody knew
She held her hand
Until the end
Through thick and thin
To all who passed her by
A gale force soul
A laugh that made you cry
With tears of joy she wrought
Her house a home
To all whom shelter
Sought
Sought
Sought
Sought
(Ah, ah, ah, ah)
(Ah, ah, ah, ah)
The sea it swam
The beach ran dry
Awaiting tears
I could not cry
He held her hand
Until the end
Threw earth upon
The earth, to send
Her soul into the sky
I watched, a statue
Shoulder on which to cry
Those tears I could not find
Lost out at sea
The crowd, I could not
Hide
Hide
Hide
Hide

"The Sea" by Jordan Hunt is a poignant and bittersweet reflection on the passing of a beloved individual. The lyrics evoke a sense of loss and nostalgia while also capturing the enduring bond that exists between the singer and the departed loved one.
The opening lines, "The sea it broke, their feet they flew, announcing life, nobody knew," suggest the unpredictable nature of life and how it can catch us off guard. It highlights the transformative power of the sea, which can both break and create, and the fleeting nature of existence.
The next verse shifts the focus to a deep friendship, with the lyrics, "She held her hand until the end, through thick and thin, a lifelong friend." It speaks to the unwavering support and companionship that this person provided, serving as a constant source of strength through all of life's ups and downs.
The following lines portray the impact this person had on others, as they were described as a "gale force soul" with a laugh that "made you cry." This indicates that their presence was captivating, leaving a lasting impression on those who crossed their path.
As the song progresses, it becomes clear that the singer is grieving the loss of this individual, expressing their inability to shed tears and find solace in the face of their departure. The imagery of the sea swimming and the beach running dry symbolizes an emotional drought, emphasizing the difficulty in processing the loss.
In the final verse, the singer observes the burial of the loved one, describing themselves as a "statue" and a "shoulder on which to cry." The inability to find the tears they so desperately need is likened to being lost at sea, adding to the sense of helplessness and emotional turmoil.
