Kristine Flaherty grew up outside of Chicago, devouring her father's classic rock records and staying up late dancing to Parliament-Funkadelic in the living room. It was this same musical open-mindedness that would later spark her artistic development. She found her musical voice in college, fusing the eclectic power of the Bay Area hip hop scene with her own unique presence, inspired by strong, independent female artists ranging from Missy Elliott and Lauryn Hill to Fiona Apple and Liz Phair.
On stage, K.Flay is a one-woman whirlwind: whether she’s creating beats, singing, rapping or playing guitar, her wit and acerbic charm shine through. Her talents have led her to share the stage with artists including Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, and 3OH!3, where she quickly won over audiences who hadn’t seen anything quite like her before. Further setting her apart from the pack, she serves as her own producer in the studio, methodically infusing her hip hop swagger with a dose of sonic exploration.
With one mixtape (the genre-hopping MASHed Potatoes) already available online, K.Flay is spending the rest of 2010 recording in San Francisco and touring with Passion Pit in October and 3oh!3 in November.

I, I Live in a dream sometime
It's ok if its stays in your mind
Just remember you can't stop time
Had a talk with God and he said to me
Take a little tome make some memories
Gotta slow it down, take a look around
And what's it all for, we're not too sure
What's really in store, for the rich or poor
But we've all got a heart
So We can love or fall apart
The choice is ours, the choice ours
When we don't know how to feel
We can run or we can heal
The choice is ours, ours
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Life, Always passing you by
I, I Live in a dream sometime
It's ok if its stays in your mind
Just remember you can't stop time
K.Flay's song "Time Stops" is a commentary on the passage of time and its impact on our lives. The song expresses a sense of longing to hold onto fleeting moments, and the realization that ultimately, we cannot stop time from moving forward.
The opening lines of the song, "Life, always passing you by, I live in a dream sometimes" describe the feeling of life moving too quickly, and the desire to pause and linger in moments that we cherish. The lyrics emphasize the importance of making memories and taking the time to appreciate our surroundings.
In the second verse, the lyrics take a more existential turn, as K.Flay imagines having a conversation with God about the meaning of life. The lyrics ask thought-provoking questions about the purpose of our existence and what lies ahead for us - questions that often go unanswered.
Despite this uncertainty, the song reiterates the importance of love and connection, as K.Flay sings "We've all got a heart, so we can love or fall apart". The lyrics suggest that even when life feels chaotic and confusing, we can choose to either run from our problems or confront them head-on and heal.
Overall, "Time Stops" offers a poignant commentary on the fleeting nature of time and the importance of living in the moment. Its lyrics encourage listeners to slow down and appreciate the present, while also acknowledging the inevitability of change and growth.
