Buried Alive
necktie party Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

when will the maggots
start crawling through the sockets of my eyes
it’s just a matter of time until
I start to gasp and scream as I suffocate and draw in my final breath of air and never let it out
I just want to get out

Buried Alive
Buried Alive

enclosed in a dark box
under 6 feet of eternal dirt
knuckles dripping blood
pummeling the lid and crying out in vain

but there’s no one to hear me but the wind the wind the wind
I’m just waiting for the worms to come

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Buried Alive" by Necktie Party explore themes of suffocation, despair, and desperation. The song begins with the question of when the maggots will start crawling through the sockets of the singer's eyes, suggesting a sense of impending decay and the horror of death. They express the feeling that their demise is inevitable, and they are anxiously waiting for their final moments to arrive. The lyrics convey a desperate plea to escape, as the singer longs to be free from their impending suffocation and to release their last breath of air.

The repetition of "Buried Alive" emphasizes the sense of entrapment and confinement. The lyrics describe being enclosed in a dark box, buried under six feet of eternal dirt. This imagery heightens the feelings of isolation and despair. The mention of "knuckles dripping blood" suggests that the singer has been trying to free themselves from their confinement, resorting to desperate measures. They're pummeling the lid of their burial place, crying out in vain. However, their efforts seem to be futile, as there is no one to hear them except the wind. This highlights the loneliness and hopelessness of their situation.

The closing lines of the lyrics bring attention to the inevitable decay and decomposition that comes with being buried. The singer is resigned to their fate, waiting for the worms to come. This line serves as a chilling reminder of the natural process that follows death, as the body becomes consumed by maggots and decomposes. The use of worms symbolizes the ultimate end and transformation of the singer's physical being.

Overall, the lyrics of "Buried Alive" evoke a sense of dread and despair. The imagery and language used depict a desperate struggle for escape, eventual acceptance of fate, and a realization of the inevitability of decay. These lyrics tap into the primal fear of being buried alive and the horror of confronting mortality in a haunting and visceral manner.

It warms my heart to know that anybody is still digging what we were doing so long ago, out there in the middle of nowhere, beneath the snow and ice.
There was a great little local punk-scene for awhile in the mid-eighties.
This was well before anybody started using the term "goth".
We didn't like to be classified as "deathrock", only, either.
We just tried to have a good time doing our own thing.
Thanks for all the positive remarks!

The Band was formed in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in about 1984 and lasted up till the bass Player and guitarist had one two many fist fights. They are scattered round the world now, I know for certain one is a pretty solid film maker in LA and one runs a commercial company in Calgary. They are not as far as I know in touch with one another and so the reunion tour of their six or seven songs (all great mind you is on hold) AX
