I like how you ended the video saying that most African safaris aren't dangerous. It helps dispel the stereotype of Africa being a dangerous place. i don't understand this comments at all, Africa is a huge place with different countries that have different problems. Why go to a war torn country and use that as a template for the whole contient? its a war torn country for God's sake no need to add your two cents. Its awesome to hear someone discuss this movie cuz I love it. I actually saw it in the theater the week it opened and it made me love Joe Pantaliano and was another unique role for Tim Curry. I feel like this is one of the most underrated flicks of the 90s yet most of my friends don't even remember it.
And to be honest, most of us wouldn't survive a trip to the Congo/DRC even without killer apes

I enjoyed this movie when I rewatched it after it was on HBO or something but I literally fell asleep in the theater.

Granted I was in the group of people who had read the book before the movie had been made. Given how much technical detail there is in that book, its no wonder that they dumbed down the movie, but they didn't need to do it to such a degree.

The scenes that were shown of the volcano erupting do not include a Pyroclastic Flow. Its actually Lava with a low viscosity. Which most of the time does not cause a Pyroclastic flow. Depending on how low the viscosity is you're still fucked. The fastest Lava erupts at Nyiaragongo (Congo) and reaches speeds of up to 100kph

the main issue on a heat seeking stinger is the missile moves insaneeeeely fast. there are a hand full of videos of them firing irl and the misslile is hitting targets 1000s of meters away in seconds. its like not much slower than a bullet.

I have ONE correction to make on this magnificent video: Ernie Hudson (Monroe) would be the sole survivor. Because he’s Ernie freaking Hudson!!! Hands down, coolest guy around and in this movie. Lava would surge the other way at his stare.

All other points are completely true, give or take other dangers in the Congo (mosquitos, venomous snakes, etc). Love the videos!

Dear Strange Thoughts I’m so glad you glad you made an excellent review on this crappy movie that barely stays true to the late Michael Crichton (Who also made great animal centered sci-fi novels such as Jurassic Park with dinosaurs) novel of the same name (Congo and the lost city of Zinj with apes) as this movie had received extremely negative reviews from Michael Crichton fans and critics alike (Despite being well performed Paramount expect and became a cult classic). And despite the film Congo based on the book being made by Kathleen Kennedy under her company “Kenned/Marshall” and distributed by Paramount pictures, In 1979 Michael Crichton wanted Disney’s recently acquired 20th century (Fox) studios to adapt his book and made it into a movie to make and distribute after they made a film adaptation of other author’s animal themed sci-fi novel with great apes called “planet of the apes” by the late Pierre Boulle into a series of films since 1968 and it’s NEVER explained why Paramount ended up distributed it instead which led to harsh criticisms from angry Michael Crichton fans (Same with Doug Walker from his channel Nostalgia critic and James Rolfe from his YouTube channel Cinemassacre who are also a Michael Crichton fans) this crappy film had a 22% from rotten tomatoes. The movie was a box/office bomb and was panned for its faithfulness to the novel and its source material, terrible acting performances, choppy editing, differences to the novel horrendous facial, script and realistic designs on the gorillas and directing, plot and lack of ominous and serious dark tone like in the book itself, Although the soundtrack from the late composer Jerry Goldsmith and Ernie Hudson and Tim curry were praised and if wanna more about much it sucks here’s the from page from Miraheze:https://awfulmovies.miraheze.org/wiki/Congo. Years later ever since Michael Crichton fans like myself kept complaining that a new Congo film based on the book should be rebooted at this point. Not to mention that in the film during the fight scene Amy the mountain gorilla calls the killer grey gorillas “Ugly gorillas” which is stupid and doesn’t make sense because in the novel she refers the homicidal simians to be called “Bad gorillas” which three pieces of other quotes saying like “Go away”, “No come”, “Here bad” with the barbaric hominid brutes looked confused and left the scene therefore leaving the Amy’s human friends alone before the Congolese volcano even started erupting out by 800 meters of burning hot lava and were actually still alive as their fate (Which didn’t happen in the film and are all deceased by the lava) and in the end of the novel it was revealed that Munro was able to retrieve a few hundred carats of the valuable diamonds and sold them to intel for use in a revolutionary new computer processor (Despite that here in the film Karen asked Peter Elliott to throw them away), while Peter reintroduces Amy back to her home in the remarkable Congolese Virunga national park with a troop of other eastern mountain gorillas led by an alpha male silverback it was observed that Amy could teach her offspring sign language (Which is very heartwarming) and sadly that didn’t happened in this film at all and in the novel after the team and the survivors ran from the volcano eruption they found a hot aired balloon in a crashed consortium cargo aircraft and uses it to escape. Also in the novel Munro Kelly’s real name is Charles Munro while an African mercenary is actually color white (Based on the actual white African people from the southern part of the continent) but here in the film his skin was blackwashed as a regular African man. Also I’m not gonna lie I’ve been reading Congo the book itself when I was only 4 and it was great and it didn’t scare me at all same with Michael Crichton’s other iconic animal themed science fiction book Jurassic Park (Which has been adapted into a series of films and more by universal studios along with King Kong , which Kong was later purchased by Warner Bros and legendary pictures).

Nice guy yeah right the guy has an extremely huge debt and owes money to a lot of people which is why he was looking for the city of Zinj as it was rumored to be built around a large diamond mine and after they find the city the guy becomes extremely obsessed about getting out of the city with the diamonds and tries to convince the others they will be rich if they help him escape but what they didn't count on was a bunch of killer gorillas showing up.
