Manny and Paul originally formed a band, Last Chance, at Harlandale High School in San Antonio to enter a talent show. They developed some songs and won their first talent show. The guys were instantly hooked on performing live shows. Since then, these guys drew the attention of everyone they cross paths with including: colleges; churches; the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender (GLBT) scene; animal rights activists; and tattoo conventions. Open Chapter is a word of mouth phenomenon. Open Chapter is often asked how they came up with their name. Manny and Paul are Shinedown fans and really like the song “Fly from the Inside”. In the song the lyrics say, “I am focused on what I am after, the key to the next open chapter.” Paul says, “It made sense to name the band Open Chapter to signify the end of the Last Chance and the beginning of something new.”
The music itself is reminiscent of grunge intertwined with Nu-Metal. It has a dark quality relying heavily on angst-filled lyrics, reverberated vocals, feedback and drums. Every song is a strong presentations and in-your-face. The sound is highly addictive. The lyrics are a mix of emotion. “Our songs really mirror situations or time frames in our lives...some good, some really bad,” says Manny. The music and lyrics of Open Chapter are magnets.
Open Chapter’s debut album titled “falling to be held” was released early 2008 on Larissa Records with independent distribution through Select-O-Hits of Nashville.
More people find Open Chapter everyday because the word is spreading fast on the internet and airwaves.

I've had it up to here with your lies and your ties.
What about my life?
Let me tell you now my friend.
Let me tell you just how you made it out and made me feel.
I took the hits and still I stayed.
Let me show you just how I made it through.
I pushed through you.
Cause...
You can't control me, You know me.
I've had it up to here with your lies and your ties.
What about my life?
Feels like you're walking away.
Feels like you're moving away from what we have or what we had.
So it seems easy to you to walk away from my face.
While I confront for me.
You there can't feel.
You there don't need me.
Deny me.
Cause...
You can't control me, You know me.
I've had it up to here with your lies and your ties.
What about my life?
Now. Now. Now.
Now don't you control me.
Don't hold me.
I've had it up to here with the fights and the ties.
What about my life?
And now that you've got me.
You had me tearing me inside.
What about my life?
And now that you've got me.
You had me killing me inside.
What about your life?
The lyrics of Open Chapter's song Control are about someone who has decided to take control of their own life and break free from the lies, ties, and control of another person. The tone of the song is assertive and determined, as the singer asserts that they will no longer be controlled or manipulated by others.
The first verse sets the tone for the rest of the song, as the singer declares that they cannot be controlled by the other person, and that they have had enough of their lies and ties. The second verse is more introspective, as the singer reflects on how the other person made them feel, and how they were able to make it through despite the obstacles.
The chorus is the most powerful part of the song, as it repeats the message that the singer cannot be controlled and demands that the other person recognize this fact. The bridge is more emotional and confrontational, as the singer addresses the other person directly and demands to know what about their own life.
This song is about empowerment and being in charge of one's own destiny. It encourages listeners to break free from toxic relationships or situations and to take control of their lives.
