To all the people being angry about dispatchers asking "dumb" questions:

For the listener they might seem unnecessary, but they're not. If you're panicking and in a place of mind you cannot control, you will calm down when you focus on answering all those questions, even if you have to repeat them multiple times. It's called "grounding" in a panic-attack situation and there are multiple forms to ground yourself, when you suffer from anxiety/panic disorders for example.
Furthermore emergency calls are used as evidence, the question about which door he took to leave the house was only to made sure that there cannot be fingerprints at the inside of the front door - if they had found fingerprints or other evidence of this person later, they would've known that he lied. (This is only one example.)
They also have to continue talking to the caller, while multitasking ordering help to the place they're at. And yes, it might be easier to ask something twice than trying to be "creative".

So please, don't blame dispatchers, most of them are doing an amazing job and it's incredible hard for them to manage a person during a breakdown/in a lifethreatening situation. Just like for everyone else of us too. They're human, not perfect, but they try very hard to be the most perfect person for you in such a situation.

Don't ever hesitate to ask someone for help if you need it!

Jacob is so soft. Even to Sarah whose just killed his kids, he refuses to shoot her and constantly tells her to stop hurting herself. He's so gentle to her even after what she's done and it's breaks my heart. What a wonderful husband and father - I hope that he is okay today

If God is an author and life a story though, my own life's central theme would be about how the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb. He has more right to claim those kids as his own because of his covenant with them than anyone else as far as I'm concerned. Dispatchers are heroes. They are the voice of reason and hope to ppl going through the worst moment of their lives. They have to be a therapist and a detective (to catch the bad guy, and these calls are what interviews are based on so they need to pin down as many details as possible so they aren't forgotten or lied about later.)

So it makes sense that it would get to people more… to imagine an event so traumatic that it pushes past gender expectations where the man just can’t hold it in like he does usually.

Listening to that man's sobs, Jacob, just broke my heart ... when he said, "I'm lost" I FELT that crap. My heart goes out to those little girls. I hope they weren't in any pain. As far as Sarah goes, I really do hope she gets the help she needs. I don’t understand why you have more sympathy for a person who kills their sleeping babies in cold blood, than the individuals who put themselves out there, in order to protect and save lives. If you had been a police officer responding to a similar scenario and the patient said they were fine, and her husband was with her, and he had already called to cancel the initial request, what what you have done differently?

He asked her in the 911 recording ”were you standing over me with the gun too? Don't lie to me!” but she never answered. When I heard she later confessed that she had in fact done that, but the gun jammed my heart broke even more for poor Jacob. He probably had wished at least at some point that he hadn't woke up to the nightmare of losing both his babies & his wife going to prison. Even after that heinous betrayal he pleaded with the court for her not to face the death penalty. That has to be one of the greatest acts of loving kindness in the face of evil that I've ever heard of. Bless his soul. I hope he has healed as best he can from such a nightmare, and I hope he's found someone with as good a heart as his own to share the rest of his time here on earth with.

As someone who has a dispatcher friend they aren’t “stupid” or “cold”, them repeating everything multiple times and remaining dead calm is their TRAINING, if they act upset or aggitated they risk upsetting the caller who is either scared, hurt or the psycho themself. It’s to keep the caller calm. And as for playing stupid making people repeat things multiple times it’s so they can keep the person talking so the cops can trace the call’s location, it could be a time sensitive situation if they didn’t trace the call and the caller was too distressed to accurately give the address that can lead to a bad situation. They are doing EXACTLY what they are trained to do

When Jacob called 911 after she killed her kids, I lost it. His voice, those were his daughters. I'm a step dad, but I adopted him. He's mine. I couldn't imagine. Mental health is surrounded by so much stigma, but it needs to be looked at a lot more than it's overlooked. She probably wasn't medicated, and I'm telling you that if you have a wife, husband, child, friend, etc. who is mentally ill... You make sure they remain on their meds and if they're on the wrong medication, get them into their doctor to have it changed. I'm glad I take my mental health meds. Without them, I'm not a nice person to be around. The mental health crisis in this country alone isn't being focused on as much as it should be. @Practicerecordings I said most pistol rounds, rifle rounds that are almost exclusively used in the most deadly mass shooting is designed to cause massive damage upon impact, a 5.56 has about 6 times the force of a 9mm and travels about 3 times as fast. Not to mention the rifles used in these very deadly mass shootings have 30 round magazines designed to deal damage fast. Pistols poke holes that get stuffed with gauze and left to heal from the inside out as long as organs aren’t damaged, rifle wounds are usually so big the shatter several bones and make holes that are several inches in diameter not the .35 inches of a 9mm. A pistol can kill if it hits something vital. A rifle will kill if it hits anywhere center mass. A lot of stabbing have several punctures several inches deep along with several gashes that are both long and deep. My ex gf did much better when she was accidentally shot in the side with a 9mm than I did getting stabbed numerous times outside a bar.

...but the force needed to stab someone, is also a variable.
A gun takes no force, a bullet will always have the velocity to enter flesh...a blade not as much so, it will depend on the strength of whoever wields it.
...history has shown that school "shootings", have tended to take more lives, than school "stabbings".
Asia has had schools taken hostage, by knife wielding perps...with far less casualties than we experience, when guns have been involved.

I can’t even begin to imagine actually feeing how Jake felt, I’m listening to the 911 call. Also a weird point but- this man loved these kids like his own and was a good husband and loyal father to a woman he loved who unfortunately had major issues. It just goes to show how good of men there are out there and how someone can completely and unselfishly give all of themselves to you. And accepting her as she was, trying to help her no matter what. I think that’s what everyone needs. He did everything he could, and I hope he’s in intensive and frequent counselling.

you are so right there are indeed good men out there, I got one, when we met I was 28 with a 3-year-old boy and one-year old-girl I had a crazy ex who was constantly dragging me into custody court, he had been ordered to but paid no child support cancelled their health insurance constantly threatened to kidnap them and take them to Mexico because"the devil was in my house and they had to be rescued from him" really scary stuff he had visitation but rarely showed up to see them after, my son turned threehe'd then complain to the judge I wouldn't make them available, there's more but I won't bore you further through it all my husband stood firmly behind me he wanted to adopt them from the start and added them on his health plan in the first month we were dating whenever we took them anywhere (the zoo, aquarium children's museum, etc.) he bought family memberships for us to get in the funny thing is when we met I didn't even want to date it felt weird with babies at home bur I had a friend who kept pushing me to she went as far as to sign mr up on a dating site targeted to IT prpfessionals I had no idea she had done it until I starting all of these e=mails from men "eager to meet me" I decided to click on one to figure out where they were coming from, it happwned to be his ans we've been together ever sinc ewe got married five months after we met and it's been (20 years now)

@James Ryder this is 1 year late but I’m just here to let you know that sometimes people get misdiagnosed. Personality disorder is incredibly difficult to diagnose because the symptoms are similar to bipolar. Sometimes people are misdiagnosed with bipolar. For all we know, Sarah could possibly have personality disorder or maybe even both. She could be one those people who got misdiagnosed.

I know this is like a year ago, but how comes that no one thinks about the fact that they smoked marijuana the evening before that happened? It can cause hallucinations etc.
Just because people like to say it's harmless doesn't mean it is. Might not cause paranoid symptoms in most people, but it does in some.
There is even the diagnose of canabis induced paranoid schizophrenia.

The mind is a terrifying thing... if you lose control. My fiancé went thru a marijuana-induced psychosis last summer that lasted over a month. Most terrifying thing I’ve ever went through. She was completely delusional and paranoid and she had no idea that she was. Thought I was watching her turn schizophrenic right in front of my eyes. Nothing more important than mental health.

My heart hurts for Jacob, he lost the three main people in his life in one night. He was truly saved by the gun jamming. God, I can't imagine that pain he carries seeing his two girls and trying to stay calm for Sarah so she doesn't do anything crazy.

The operator in the second call was incredible. She remained so calm and sympathetic and got the info so quickly before just remaining there for safety and support. I can’t imagine how she must’ve felt that day.

Oh my goodness. I just want to give Jacob a big ol' hug. His wife shot and killed his two daughters, who were 7 and 5 years old, but he refused to hurt her, he wanted to save her and keep her alive. We need more people like that in this world. And those 911 dispatchers were amazing. They even asked, "Is this Jacob?" That just tore me up.

Damn the father crying for his girls is so heartbreaking. I don't know how these dispatchers keep it together and keep their emotions in check. I know it seems apathetic in the tone of their voice and questions asked but she did do a good job of staying calm and trying to get his focus so he can help the officers with what they'll need from him. RIP to those beautiful girls.

It takes a certain kind of person for this job. They are vitally great at dissasociation and compartmentalizing. I, on the other hand absorb other people's emotions as I see/hear them and I almost feel what they're feeling. It's embarrassing when I go to the funeral of someone I don't know to support a friend or family member and I bawl my eyes out seeing everyone else's grief.

My father is a 911 dispatcher. He has been for close to 20 years now. He has nightmares from some of the calls he has taken over the years. He has suffered tremendously from some of the calls. My dad continues on and continues his job by thinking about all of the people he was able to save. I still do not know how he has been able to keep it together during calls when it's the worst case scenario.

I was in the middle of Jacob's call after Sarah killed her daughters when my bf came in to take the dogs out. I told him about the story so far. He didn't want to hear it, asked why I watch these videos. I chuckled and he said it isn't funny. I said I was chuckling at his reaction to me watching these. Came back after letting dogs in to finish watching and listening. Heartbreaking to hear Jacob crying, him being lost, and asking her "Why?" over and over. I'm with the other commenter that said they wanted to give him a hug. I pray he gets the help he needs to cope with this. He's such a great Dad to those girls and I hope he has kids of his own one day. RIP girls. Sarah is lucky to be spared the death penalty for her family's sake.
