In an interview, Larson, then aged 16, stated, "I think that I write about stuff that others don't write about. I don't have a bunch of love songs cause I don't really have much boy experience. I just write about what I am actually going through in my real life. That's where the title from my album comes from – "Finally out of P.E." My P.E. teacher didn't like me at all, which was hard to deal with cause I was usually such a teachers' pet. So when I found out I got my record deal, I was like, 'Yes, I'm finally out of P.E.""
The song "Hope Has Wings" was featured on the 2005 animated film "Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus".
Due to many delays in release dates, the album was expected to be released in the fall 2004, However, the album was later released on October 18, 2005. The album sold a total of 4,000 copies in the United States.
Life After You

'Cause you didn't want to be tied down
I felt like a loser, wasted and used
So scared to move without you around
I thought I was gonna die, turns out I survived
[Chorus]
Hey, didn't need you anyway
I get better every day
Don't you think it's funny how it all works out
Yeah, I've finally got a life
I go on every night
Now I've got so much to say, so much to do
This is life, life after you
I've been on a roller coaster since you said we were over
I'm finally back to being me
I don't have to say I'm sorry
I'm the last one at the party
I don't ever think I've felt so free
I guess I should be thanking you for this brand new attitude
[Chorus]
Hey, didn't need you anyway
I'm getting better every day
Don't you think it's funny how it all works out
Yeah, I've finally got a life
I go on every night
Now I've got so much to say, so much to do
This is life, life after you
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh
[Chorus]
Hey, didn't need you anyway
I'm getting better every day
Don't you think it's funny how it all works out
Yeah, I've finally got a life
I go on every night
Now I've got so much to say, so much to do
This is life, life after you
This is life, life after you
The lyrics to "Life After You" by Brie Larson tell the story of a person who has been on an emotional roller coaster since their breakup with a significant other who did not want to be "tied down." At first, the person felt like a "loser" who couldn't move without their ex, but eventually realizes they "survived" and didn't need them after all. The chorus repeats the sentiment that the person is better off without their ex and has a new life full of possibilities.
It's clear from the lyrics that the breakup was difficult for the person, but it also allowed them to grow and discover their own identity outside of the relationship. The line "I'm finally back to being me" shows that the person has regained their sense of self and independence.
Overall, the lyrics emphasize the idea that sometimes endings can lead to new beginnings and that it's possible to thrive after a difficult breakup. The upbeat tempo of the song also conveys a sense of hope and positivity.
