He started performing at the age of ten, but his breakthrough came in 1961, when he won the Danish national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, in which he finished 5th.
Dario Campetto moved to Italy in 1967 with his then wife, acress Ghita Nørby, and their son, Giacomo (born in 1964), but returned to Denmark in 1970 to continue his career in showbusiness. Since 1977, he has been to Gertrud, with whom he has two children, Claudia (born in 1977) and Filippo (born in 1991)
