He was raised in the farming community of Prickly Pole, just a few miles from the home where Bob Marley grew in Nine Mile. I-taweh spent most of his childhood farming alongside his father and four siblings. As a youth, he began playing music with his family and friends. His musical career started shortly after his move from the country to Kingston in 1992, where he was given the name “Danny Gitz” because of his growing reputation as an outstanding musician. He began his first tour with “High Symbol” in 1994. He then went on to become the youngest member of the original Nyabhingi group “The Mystic Revelation of Rastafari”. During those years he was also doing significant work with Sugar Minott. He later became the guitarist for Everton Blender, and then went on to work with the “Yellow Wall Dub Squad”. For the past few years he has been a band member and the opening act for artists such as the Abyssinians, Richie Spice, Anthony B, Gregory Isaacs, Yami Bolo, Iqulah, Ini Kamoze, Sister Carol, the Melodians, the Mighty Diamonds, Junior Reid, Tanya Stepehens and many more… I-taweh’s incredible versatility on guitar and bass, precise vocals, and vibrant stage presence has kept him in high demand not only for live stage performances, but in the studio as well. On any given day you can hear his guitar licks playing on the radio waves of IRIE FM and radio stations across the globe. “Danny Gitz” has recorded for several major artists such as: Sade, Capleton, Morgan Heritage, Sugar Minott, Luciano, etc., and helped compose much of Iqulah’s latest released album “Rastafari Forever” on which the Marley brothers are featured. He has played music for many major festivals in Jamaica, Europe, and North America including: Rebel Salute, Sting, Sumfest, Sunsplash, Monterey Bay reggae festival, Sierra Nevada, Reggae Rising, Reggae on the River, NW World Reggae, Reggae Sundance, Ratatam, etc. Over the years I-taweh has been writing and composing all of his own music, and laying tracks in Jamaica, Europe, and North America. I-taweh’s music is featured in the award winning movie “African Rush (the ultimate ride)” and “The FIND: Claiming the Nelscott Reef”. His album “Overload” is soon to be released under his own production company “Tap Nat Muzik”. Currently I-taweh is RINSING the radio waves of IRIE FM in Jamaica with his two singles “Overload” and “Braveheart” which were freshly released in January 2010. The response has been overwhelming! He is currently touring and performing his music live in venues and for major festivals in North America, and Jamaica. He is captivating audiences all over the world with his moving lyrics and phenomenal musical abilities. Itawe’s unique and original sound comes from his Jamaican roots combined with inspirations from his travels abroad. His music is diverse and reflects his passion for Human Rights and Social Justice. Whether performing acoustic or vibesing up the house with his original reggae roots/culture sound, he is winning the hearts of his listeners and continuously leaves his audience wanting more!
