Many groups have had him stamp his distinctive personality on their records and live performances since then. Whether its the electronic sounds of german A-listers Tarwater, or the acoustic songwriting sensibilities of someone like St. Thomas, jefvTaon is equally at home contributing. For here is somebody who has been fusing synths with folk music for 30 years!
While in the 80's his music was classified mistakenly as psychedelic or kraut rock, the new media genre of "Wyrd" fits most appropriately. His music is informed equally by the Detroit milieu he grew up in the turbulent 60's, yet has reached its full bloom after moving to the "Olde World" in his quest to find the source of his musical spirit. While most are content to simply cut and paste music styles together, Taon has spent a lifetime absorbing the essence of what is behind the sounds. His 1997 solo cd "Astral Years" and 2000's "draginSpring contain masterpieces which transcend style and reach a timeless quality which Gram Parsons tagged Cosmic American. jefv has gone on record saying that while he was a fan of Parsons (since the 70's!), he believed there was more to Cosmic American than singing like George Jones, dropping acid and trying to cop Mick Jagger moves.
In fact, magick and shamanism are Taons true calling cards, with music playing the trump.
A practitioner of meditation since the age of 15, avid drug consumer, and lifetime disciple of Russian mystic G.I. Gurdjieff, jefvTaon has himself become the instrument of experimentation. " There's not a lot of people (of my generation) left doing what i am. And nobody goes deep listening like we used to. its a lot of background music now... multi-tasking, mobile phones and no time. Melody is the language of the angels. I never been to India, but what i do is pretty common over there. Holy men, grooving... Detroit is in me, that's my karma, but Berlin has some sort of connection... that heavy connection ... it gives me what i need to do my thing. not many cities like them."
2007 has already seen jefv help complete the debut Milenasong album "7 Sisters" ( he's credited as jefferson tarlton) as well as guest on the newly released and much critically lauded Tarwater cd "Spider Smile". His next cd, titled "Treason of the Witch" should be out later this year as well.
It is hoped the idea of bringing his guitar and Appalachian dulcimer to Norway in July will have him back there for the first time since his 9-show tour... opening for St.Thomas, some 4 years ago!
What people can expect is: part Detroit biker gang, part dead-end Wiemar/Berlin cabaret, and part Wickerman sacrifice.
jefvTaon. The authentic voice of a Beat way of life.
