Lucy’s connection with music first began when she joined a professional all-girls choir at the age of ten, performing for royalty and rockstars alike. With straight-laced self discipline and harmonising mastered, Lucy also turned her attention to expanding her musical talents; adding piano, guitar and banjo to her repertoire. A desire to create music of her own followed, and Lucy’s strength as a songwriter was quickly realised.
Over the past three years Lucy has consistently been recognised for her talents as a performer and as a songwriter. She was a 2014 finalist in the Vanda & Young Song Competition for her song ‘On My Own’. She was 2013 recipient of ‘Youth Song of the Year’, awarded by Songs Alive Australia, and the winner of Sydney City’s ‘Our Kind of Music’ competition for her original song ‘There’s Light’. She was also a member of the final 20 candidates for the prestigious Talent Development Program 2013, and a 2012 heat finalist for Telstra’s Road to Discovery competition.
Following on from her ‘Lady’ EP album release, Lucy Neville will continue to develop her poetic pop style and enrapture audiences with her commanding performances.
On My Own
Lucy Neville Lyrics

i was busy doing nothing.
i was waiting for an answer
to a question i never asked.
and i know you couldn't make it.
you were busy hiding from me
‘cause there's no answer to the question
and there's no need for company.
we're better off alone.
alone
alone
alone.
there's no rhyme or reason.
i don't know how i got this bad.
i could tell you what went wrong
but i wouldn't take it back.
my mind is far too busy
and this flying town is crowded
and i never thought i'd leave this place
but the sound is far too loud.
i'm leaving on my own.
on my own
on my own
on my own.
sorry i couldn't make it.
i was busy doing nothing.
i was waiting for an answer
to a question i never asked.
The lyrics of Lucy Neville's song, "On My Own," convey a sense of detachment and a desire for solitude. The singer acknowledges that they and the person they are addressing could not make it to a planned meeting. The singer was "busy doing nothing" and waiting for an answer to a question they never asked. Meanwhile, the other person was "hiding" from the singer because there was "no answer to the question" and "no need for company." Ultimately, the singer declares that they are "better off alone."
The lyrics suggest a lack of direction and aimlessness on the part of the singer. They appear to be uncertain about their place in the world and their purpose in life. The refrain, "alone, alone, alone," emphasizes the singer's isolation and longing for solitude. They feel overwhelmed by their surroundings and their mind is "far too busy." The decision to leave on their own is presented as a necessary step for the singer to find clarity and peace.
