reggae alongside baggy, early techno and old fashioned indie music. He brought these
influences to his keyboard playing with a number of indie bands in the north
throughout the 90s.
Moving to Bristol, he became heavily involved in production and
immersed himself in the world of hip hop and rap, at the same time becoming a
leading journalist on music production and technology. Hooking up with Colombian
MC SpokesMao, a man of incredible lyrical dexterity in Spanish and English, Jones created the album in various studios around the south west.
With recording assistance and advice from members of legendary Bristol
band Portishead with whom Jones developed a close relationship, the album came
together gradually with invaluable contributions from the best and brightest local talent
including Cutterz Choice on decks, Matt Albon on drums and Stig Manley on guitars.
Locked in his studio, Jones painstakingly built, edited and refined the tracks and they
were eventually mixed and mastered at Portishead’s studio. The resulting album
blends hip hop, funk, jazz and Spanish / English rap in a refreshingly unique way.
Hollin Jones is also a prolific remixer and has played keyboards and remixed
for many friends and bands including Morcheeba and the Clint Boon Experience.
Joined by local legend Chalk MC for a truly incendiary live show, the band has gained a reputation for high energy live performances.
The Heights is released on the band’s own Calumet City Records label and is available on CD or digitally through all major online stores including iTunes, CDBaby and Amazon.
The band will be releasing an E.P in May 2009. Reconnection E.P showcases the band's new, harder sound as well as the lyrical skills of SpokesMao and Chalk MC.
