Umbrella was a key member of the indie-rock scene established by a number of high school and college aged bands in the Mesa, Arizona area, circa 1995-2005. The local genre coined "480-area-core" by the band Before Braille, also included notable bands such as October's First Hero, Foreign Holiday, Lydia, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Treehouse Cadillacs, Felix, The Manhattan Project and Jimmy Eat World, among others who attended Mountain View, Westwood and other Mesa and Gilbert High Schools.
If you have been rightly disappointed by the last decade of rock music, Umbrella may be a nice introduction to what you once knew as 'emo' in the 90s, 'indie rock' in the aughts and 'better than what is widely available' rock now. These kids were too good for their own good.
