As music scene veteran, Jon Wilks officially became producer as well as lead guitarist and principal songwriter, CF blossomed from Buck's identity crisis, sharper and funkier, as well known for musical community activism as for their high energy shows and afro-topped lead singer, Warren Fryar. Along with Wilks, Fryar from the southern U.S. and bassist Dave Borgeson from the Chicago area got audiences dancing across Japan to funky-rock-pop, supporting other fledgling bands, organizing live events, festivals and forming Afronaut Records in 2006. Fukuoka born drummer Yuki Tatsuya from Aquabomb initially kept the beat, later replaced by Smooth Line's Yacchin and - briefly - by TLC's former touring drummer, Dee Simmons (yes, THAT TLC!)
The 2005 full length CD Early Recordings embraced 60s and 70s rock and soul influences from Stax to Abbey Road, paying homage to Afro Pop, The Smiths, Prince, The Band, Paul Simon, Clapton and Steve Cropper along the way. The long awaited follow-up EP You Come Around was released just in time for the band's official breakup in the summer of 2007, accompanied by a big sayonara gig complete with hundreds of friends and more of Western Japan's best indie bands.
While retrospective in their style, the members of the band demonstrated their forward-thinking sides by allowing free release of their complete collection on TadaMusic.org. Get your download there now!
Warren Fryar is currently working on solo material, while Jon Wilks has recorded and released material with The Loving Oven and as a solo artist under the name Night Town Service - all available from Tada Music. Dave Borgeson has taken the most severe turn, plunging headlong into the Kyushu thrash-metal scene with Snatchmaster. Yacchin is currently taking Tokyo by storm as the drummer in cheesy J-pop act, Smooth Line, and Tatsuya Yuki was last seen selling his drums and quitting music, before heading off into the Fukuoka hills, never to be seen again. Seriously!
