He spent most of his childhood teenage years singing in his church's music ministry. In elementary school, he picked up the trumpet and played through the beginning of high school. After a crowd-pleasing rendition of "Lean On Me" and an inspirational talk about the direction of one's life, he made the decision to follow vocal music. He spent the last three years of high school in his school's choir, show choir, and theater productions. He was in constant competitions all throughout high school and took home high honors. Upon graduating from high school, Enrique moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and began attending the University of Tulsa. Although originally majoring in Music Performance and Musical Theatre, he once again changed gears and changed his major to Music Education with Vocal Emphasis. Currently, he is student teaching in the Tulsa area and will graduate from the University of Tulsa in May 2008.
Enrique's musical tastes have always been in constant change, and as such, it seems fitting that his vocal styles fit that flexibility. His first full length album, The Senior Voice Recital of Enrique Tejada, features his classically trained voice/timbre that culminates eight years of voice lessons. While at the University of Tulsa, he studied under international opera performers, Peter Strummer and Linda Roark-Strummer, and choral director/solo performer, Dr. Kim Childs. Although Enrique feels that his classically trained vocal timbre is his most trained and strongest vocal style, he has the ability to adjust his voice to various vocal styles. He hopes to find a niche in which he can have the freedom to perform any type of music and to one day form a band.
