The influences were vast and varied; from his father's traditional bluegrass and acoustic music to his mother's eclectic stash ranging from the Stones to Bob Marley. The music of local bands hung in the air as well, from the legendary Doors to punk pioneers Black Flag and Descendents.
Indeed all these sounds are present on ERIC LYMAN's 'Champagne Air'. In his spare time from the band SLACKSTRING, he wrote, produced, and performed all the tracks on his solo debut. The songs were largely written and recorded at his home perched atop the Santa Ynez mountains in Painted Cave, and reflect the isolation, connection with nature, and peacefulness of this location that looks down upon the city of Santa Barbara, California.
ERIC LYMAN has been performing music since his early teens. In high school, his punk outfit AWOL played shows with an up and coming band called Sublime, as well as punk legends from Pennywise to Agent Orange. His years at UCSB had him performing in backyard party band Active Rawhemi placing him alongside The English Beat and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.
Upon graduation, ERIC LYMAN found himself residing in Santa Barbara with regular gigs at local establishments. Like church on Sundays, his Friday evening performances became religion for a contingent of loyal fans that came week after week to dance, sing along, or simply enjoy the music. During this same time ERIC LYMAN also warmed up the stage for national acts like Jack Johnson, Tea Leaf Green, and New Monsoon.
His greatest accomplishments, however, have been with his band SLACKSTRING, a globally renowned act that has met success from Australia to Germany. With SLACKSTRING, the songs, voice and guitar play of ERIC LYMAN have been featured in various action sports films and television shows, and heard on radio stations from Tokyo to Seattle. SLACKSTRING has shared billing with acts like Donavon Frankenreiter, Slightly Stoopid, The Wailers, Toots & The Maytalls, The White Buffalo, Todd Hannigan, Common Sense and grammy award winner John Cruz. SLACKSTRING's self titled debut is sonically similar to the stripped down, acoustic heavy sounds of 'Champagne Air' while the forthcoming LP 'Lay Back' showcases the growth of the band as songwriters and architects of sound in texture and scope.
ERIC LYMAN recently relocated to his hometown to pursue a music career with SLACKSTRING and to perform as an independent artist; living a few blocks from the ocean in a family estate of three generations. Between tending the garden and riding the waves, his melodies can be faintly heard among the bustle this seaside enclave in LA's South Bay.
