1. An English nu-metal/hip hop band
2. A Dutch alternative rock band
1. Born of the industrial north of England, raised in working-class towns with the burden of aspirations, four friends who have, together in some form or another, been making noise and messes (and excesses) for over a decade. Geek were a gang from the start, and continue to be so: brothers bonding over a shared love of volume, expression, exhilaration and the tinnitus that follows; a bond formed in the cold heat of rigorous rehearsal regimes and formative experience; in the hard knocks of shared bruises and losses, whilst the girls and the money may come and go, Geek remains(!), our only constant in an uncertain world. A vague agreement to meet up on a weekly basis becomes the most committed thing you ever did in your life. The essence of a band...? Held together as much by fear as hope, a crew of misfits sailing a stolen boat to some unknown destination. The only Zen insight you ever achieve creating your own nirvana; losing yourself in a moment that never ends.
Geek specialise in fantasy, distortion, bullshit and avoidance. It’s a wonder we get anything done, but nonetheless we are always working on something new; if you dig our shit and you’d like to work with us, please email us, we love it when we get emails that aren’t about penis enlargement.
2. Geek was a Dutch band active from 1994 to 1998, playing mostly in their hometown of Delft, the Netherlands. College friends Gert (bass), Erno (vocals, saxophone) and Cor (guitar) decided to form a band and asked Erno's housemate Erwin to join them on drums. A name was easily found: the acronym G*E*E*C comes from the four band members' first names, just like ABBA. The band quickly started getting gigs playing small festivals in Delft's alternative/student circuit. The band's genre was often labeled Subsound after playing the local Subsound festival hosting mostly alternative punk/rock bands.
G*E*E*C released a first demo tape simply called "G*E*E*C" in 1995, featuring four original songs representing the band's jam-based but tightly structured music.
In 1997, Erno left Delft to complete an internship abroad. This left the band without a singer, at least temporarily. Fortunately Tijs, a friend of the band who had always claimed that he knew all of G*E*E*C's songs by heart, stepped up to fill the vocal spot. Since the acronym G*E*E*C did not make sense anymore, the band changed its name to simply Geek, after having operated shortly under the moniker TGOAFUAG: "The Group Of Artists Formerly Unknown As G*E*E*C", a skit on Prince's TAFKAP name at that time.
1998 saw the return of Erno to the Netherlands, and in Geek. This time he could focus on saxophone and the occasional vocal, instead of having to divert his time between vocals and sax. The band, by now a five-piece, returned to the festival circuit once again, and released a five-track cd which was again appropriately simply called "Geek". This cd received airplay on local radio in different cities across the country. On the strenght of this cd and their live reputation, Geek was asked to be part of a nationwide three-band package tour, but at that time it became apparent that the level of commitment to the band varied from member to member, and these differences led to the eventual demise of Geek. Tijs and Cor continued playing together in a band called Patent Pending but this band also dissolved after some years. In 2011 Gert invited Erwin to join him and his highschool friend Eduard to form Sons of Gaijin (https://www.last.fm/music/Sons+of+Gaijin).
In 2017, a retrospective collection of unreleased Geek songs called "Geek Spod" compiled from rehearsal session recordings was released through [Geek's Bandcamp site](https://geekgeekgeek.bandcamp.com/). The songs from 1995's "G*E*E*C" tape and 1998's "Geek" cd are also available there.
